The event photos from Chengdu World Line Anime Exhibition have finally been retouched! This time I brought Kasugano Sora from Yosuga no Sora to life (Kasugano Sora cosplay), choosing an off-white Western dress paired with White stockings and black Mary Jane shoes, complemented by a gray plush rabbit to present an overall cool, tranquil, and ethereal ambiance. To capture the desired night scene aesthetic, the photographer and I specifically waited until after closing time, spreading a blanket across a sparsely populated plaza to shoot.
Styling the wig took immense effort; because Kasugano Sora's silver-white twintails and blunt straight bangs are iconic, I had to ensure the fibers wouldn't glare under harsh night lighting while retaining layered dimension. In terms of makeup, I practiced subtraction as much as possible, accentuating a translucent foundation with a subtle touch of world-weary ennui. While cradling the rabbit plush, I constantly adjusted my arm positioning so the toy wouldn't obstruct the body lines, while maintaining sharp focus in my gaze. Night shooting severely tests lighting techniques: the photographer used frontal fill light to separate the subject crisply from the dark backdrop, with soft bokeh orbs from distant buildings and streetlights perfectly echoing the overarching sense of solitude.
As a cosplayer, bringing such a classic nostalgic character to life inevitably brings pressure, given how deeply etched she is in everyone's memory. Walking around the convention floor, the voluminous skirt hem was quite easy to step on, but fortunately fellow anime fans on site kindly helped watch out. While shooting this set, the biggest challenge was sustaining tranquil, restrained composure—unlike shooting energetic characters with cheerful smiles, emotional control was paramount. Sitting upon the cold pavers over a white blanket, looking out into the distant nightscape, in that very moment I genuinely felt immersed in the character. Everything progressed smoothly, with teamwork between the photographer and me becoming ever more seamless. From location scouting to lighting tweaks and post-processing color grading, the goal was to maximize that quiet, subtly melancholic beauty. I reunited with many old friends at the convention and made new ones, exchanging cosplay insights and discussing how to portray characters even better.
Every set of Convention photos serves as a cherished chronicle—recording days bustling through conventions and documenting my passion for the characters. This set took nearly a month from initial prep to completion; from wardrobe selection to prop fabrication, every detail underwent repeated verification. The dress fabric easily blew out under lighting, so we calibrated color temperature several times during test shots. Walking in high heels for hours made my feet ache, yet before the camera, graceful poise had to be upheld. I hope these Convention photos faithfully convey the genuine emotions felt during the shoot, serving as a satisfying culmination of this Chengdu World Line Anime Exhibition journey.
