At the 2026 Port Midsummer Cool Festival convention, I finally got to bring out this Racing suit for Essex. Ever since deciding on this outfit, I spent plenty of time pondering how to merge the crisp sharpness of racing aesthetics with Essex's distinctive character charm. The silhouette on body exceeded my expectations: the blue-and-black patched leather fabric naturally caught specular highlights under the expo hall lighting, while the checkerboard print across the bodice and the body strapping brought immense depth and dimension. To complement this styling, I selected a white cap with a yellow brim paired with light-blue twin tails, making the palette pop brilliantly against the red-and-blue racing backdrops.
For gloves, I went with fingerless leather gloves to keep hand movements nimble without feeling bulky. The pairing of black leather shorts and sheer black Stockings visually elongated my leg lines; matched with glossy blue high heels, walking required extra caution, but the camera results made every step worthwhile. The venue staging incorporated ample tires and oil drums that fit the motorsport theme seamlessly—perching on the drums or leaning against blue framework made natural, striking compositions effortless. Because it was a bustling convention floor with constant foot traffic, we tested multiple camera angles across sitting, standing, and leaning poses to avoid passersby entering the frame, ultimately achieving postures that felt dynamic without appearing forced.
This cosplay costume features a rich variety of materials—from matte leather and high-shine patent leather to translucent mesh sleeves—so in posing, I deliberately highlighted the textural transitions. Resting one hand on a tire or draping a leg across an oil drum utilized bodily curves and tailored cuts to enrich the composition. Since the outfit features a crop-top design, the hall's strong air conditioning felt a bit chilly during breaks, yet the instant shooting began, I was completely absorbed in character. Overall, I am very satisfied with these Convention photos; the lighting and set aligned smoothly, especially the geometric red-and-blue line backdrops that echoed the suit's palette flawlessly. Pulling off a racing suit demands good physical poise since tight leather and shorts easily reveal posture flaws, so I prepared beforehand to present my best condition. Communicating with the photographer, we agreed that overly intricate gestures weren't needed—clean lines and a composed gaze were enough to convey a racer's brisk poise. The makeup emphasized the eyes to pair with the light-blue wig, aiming to showcase a fresh, distinctive side of Essex.
Shooting time at conventions is always tight amidst a noisy environment, but to deliver great work, we refined every subtle movement and glance. While oil drums and tires look atmospheric, sitting or leaning on them isn't particularly comfortable—especially keeping balance on drums in high heels, which required continuous core engagement. Yet seeing the final frames made all that fatigue fade away. To suit the theme, my expression management leaned confident and composed to reflect the character's presence in this setting. Venue lights playing across the patent leather produced remarkable texture. Overall, shooting at the Azur Lane Cool Festival was a wonderful experience where I also met many passionate fans. I hope these Convention photos allow everyone to feel Essex's confidence and composure on the track, and I hope you all enjoy this set!
