In late March outdoors in Changchun, the sunshine felt cozy and warm on the skin, though the passing breeze still carried a brisk chill. Visiting the Starlight Track of the Honor of Kings National Tournament Changchun Station, the most profound sensation was the perfect collision between the vibrant esports atmosphere and ACG culture. Let's start with the first blue-haired look, which was selected as the cover for this set. Blue braids draped over my chest, with a silvery crescent-shaped headpiece and geometric openwork arm guards forming the core essence of this ensemble. Sitting cross-handed at the table, the outfit's plunging deep-V design and white feathered shoulder trims revealed exquisite texture under the sun. To match the rather crisp, sharp lighting on set, I deliberately adjusted my posture, leaning slightly forward to accentuate the specular sheen of the metal accessories. Just as this photo was taken, a gentle breeze swept by, while the white streamlined eyeliner artfully painted around the corners of my eyes added a touch of futuristic tech aesthetic. Wearing this look on site was honestly quite tiring, as the silver metallic accessories carried noticeable weight, requiring periodic adjustments to maintain my composure, but seeing the final output made every ounce of effort completely worthwhile.
Next up was the blonde-and-blue dress look. This outfit boasted rich, high-saturation colors, where the blue lace trims along the bodice and purple puff sleeves created a whimsical, dreamy fairy-tale contrast, accentuated by the blue teardrop glitter on my cheeks as a standout highlight. At the time, I was sitting by the check-in desk, and seeing the camera draw near, I instinctively reached out a welcoming hand to invite an interactive moment. Although the choker neckpiece was stylized with openwork cutouts, the material was somewhat stiff, so turning my head required careful angling to best flatter the contours of my collarbones and neck.
The other two traditional Chinese-style looks took on completely contrasting aesthetics. A crop-top ensemble in yellow, blue, and green was paired with a tasseled waist sash that gave off delicate rustles with every step. The green slit maxi skirt put leg positioning to the test; right beneath the archway of the Starlight Meet, I looked up to adjust the feather hairpiece on my head, and the photographer captured that fleeting candid instant perfectly. The other purple-and-gold ensemble featured exquisitely refined gold waist accessories and delicate lace neckline details. Posing with a classic V-sign beside a white cartoon puppy standee, this gown featured a sweeping train that had to be lifted lightly to maintain an elegant gait while being mindful not to step on the hemline.
Cosplaying at an esports tournament site is a completely different world from regular studio shoots or anime conventions. The venue was brimming with audiences, pro players, and dazzling stage lighting, where the yellow shipping container barriers in the background collided sharply with the expansive blue sky to deliver an electrifying color clash. Most of these shots were taken under natural daylight; to seize the finest light-and-shadow angles, the photographer and I continuously experimented with positioning. Occasionally, waiting for a window free of passersby required holding our poses for prolonged moments and constantly resetting the drape of the skirts. Looking at the moments frozen in the lens, I feel that's precisely the magic of photography—fusing the blood-pumping spirit of esports with the beauty of character representation. Attending these offline events always allows me to feel everyone's raw passion for the game and characters; the authentic synergy of this live interaction is something that studio shoots can never replace.
