For this shoot capturing Sora Kasugano's school uniform look from Yosuga no Sora, pre-production preparation centered primarily on wardrobe coordination and makeup design. The overarching goal was to pursue a bright, airy Japanese-style aesthetic with lazy, cozy everyday warmth. Wardrobe-wise, the palette of this JK school uniform is delightfully soothing: the top is a cream-white long-sleeved blouse featuring Peter Pan collar trim pieced with a brown-and-white plaid pattern, accented on the left chest with a pale blue embroidered shield crest. The bottom pairs with an identical brown-and-white plaid pleated skirt boasting razor-sharp pleats and a fluid, elegant drape. To infuse a touch of mature, subtle allure, I chose sheer Black stockings layered against a plush white shag rug, creating a striking visual contrast.
The wig was a long, straight silver-white style with blunt bangs trimmed cleanly across the forehead, tied into low twin pigtails on both sides with black satin ribbons. The lengths were quite expansive, cascading down to my calves. To give the hair a smooth, lustrous texture, I glided a flat iron through it to maintain sleek straightness. For makeup, the base aimed for a porcelain, translucent glow, focusing heavily on ocular definition with blue-grey contact lenses to lend the gaze piercing clarity. Earth-toned eyeshadow formed the base, finished with an organically winged eyeliner. Blush was swept across the center of the cheeks to introduce a delicate, youthful innocence, while coral-orange lip glaze lent a fresh, radiant vitality.
The indoor location was split into two areas: one draped with an expansive white high-pile shag carpet, and an open kitchen featuring warm wooden shelving. Posing on the white rug, I experimented with a prone lounging stance to complement wide-angle lens perspective: propping up my upper torso with one arm while gently playing with a plush toy prop with the other, letting my legs curve upward naturally. This pose tested core and lumbar strength to hold sleek curves while letting the leg lines wrapped in Black stockings stretch outward toward the lens. The kitchen setting offered richer domestic lifestyle charm. I sat atop the island counter, drawing my knees up to my chest, or leaned forward extending both hands toward the camera. This reaching gesture demanded fully unfurled arms, which forged an engaging interactive depth through wide lenses. Framing required keeping stray clutter out of view, letting clean white cabinets and natural wood shelves serve as minimalist background accents.
Regarding lighting, we refrained from heavy artificial setups, relying mostly on soft natural daylight pouring through the windows, paired with a white reflector to bounce soft fill into facial shadows—keeping the lighting exceptionally even, gentle, and low in contrast. This high-key photography technique severely tests the cleanliness and purity of clothing colors, and the cream-white and soft-brown tones harmonized flawlessly with such a bright mood.
Posing atop the kitchen counter midway through the shoot was certainly no easy feat—engaging the core and pulling back shoulders while keeping expressions effortless and relaxed without revealing physical strain took disciplined poise. Seeing the finished selects, however, the atmosphere met our highest expectations. This Sora school uniform styling captures both the youthful nostalgia of JK uniforms and a hint of mature elegance via the Black stockings, making it one of my personal favorite styling experiments. Wrapping up this set brought a deep sense of relaxation, and I look forward to exploring more diverse character transformations ahead.
