Bringing Azur Lane's Sally to life for this cosplay shoot required meticulous attention to costume tailoring and character styling. For the wig, I selected long straight blue-purple hair featuring pink-violet highlights, securing the twin high ponytails and bangs with ample styling lacquer to ensure they stayed immaculately in place through every movement. The white triangular hair clip resting on the bangs is the soul of the look and couldn't be overlooked.
Regarding makeup, to harmonize with the anime aesthetic, I chose pink-violet contact lenses and deepened the eye shadow contouring. Generous blush blended beneath the eyes and across the cheeks paired with glossy crimson lips to give the face a supple, radiant presence on camera. Facing high-output studio lamps over extended hours, the foundation and concealing were locked down solidly to prevent makeup meltdown.
This black-and-white maid outfit is packed with intricate detailing: the bodice features black puff sleeves trimmed with white lace, framed by criss-cross lace-up ties and a black center bow. The skirt layers a pleated black outer fabric over voluminous white ruffled petticoats, giving it considerable physical weight. To build up textural depth, I added an oversized white lace ribbon bow, a black choker collar, and monochrome lace wrist cuffs. The glossy patent-leather bunny ears headband atop my head was the crowning accent, echoing the sleek sheen of the footwear.
The lower half paired sheer black stockings with garter straps alongside glossy black platform chunky heels, accented by polished metal buckles that added crisp visual weight. Posing focused on showcasing the silhouette of the outfit and stockings through a progression of poses: kneeling, crouching, and dynamic single-leg balances that demanded steady core balance to remain fluid and natural. The photographer controlled lighting angles with finesse, diffusing soft studio light across the set to highlight the patent sheen of the trims alongside the delicate texture of the black stockings.
Gestures like resting a cheek on one hand, curling cat paws, or leaning forward into the lens were designed to capture Sally's spirited, subtly flirtatious charm. Throughout the shoot, I continually varied facial expressions and body angles to ensure each frame delivered a distinct emotional nuance. The final results align closely with my vision of Sally, faithfully documenting the garment's craftsmanship and the character's lively presence.
