This set of convention photos portraying Kasugano Sora was captured at night during the Chengdu Worldline animation and comic exhibition. After spending most of the day exploring inside the convention halls, we transitioned out to the exterior plaza in the evening. The temperature plummeted rapidly, but fortunately the fabric of this dress was quite substantial, making the chill bearable apart from my exposed arms. I began prepping the long silver-white wig a week prior to the convention—the blunt bangs required subtle layering with scissors, while the twin pigtails on both sides were secured with styling spray to prevent frizz while walking outdoors. The black satin ribbon bows were fastened beside the ears to maintain symmetry before the camera. For makeup, the base was applied very fair, accented with a touch of soft pink on the eyes, pink-violet colored contacts, and an emphasis on the under-eye aegyo sal, aiming to capture the character's serene, melancholic aura.

My handheld prop was a grey plush rabbit; it took considerable searching to find one with the ideal ear length and proportions. The greatest hurdle during the shoot was controlling the night lighting. The background was pitch black, with distant streetlamps offering only scattered bokeh circles. To make the subject pop, the photographer utilized an off-camera flash with a softbox, directing the key light down from a high frontal angle while using a reflector to lift shadows beneath the chin. White dresses blow out very easily under intense light, so balancing the lighting ratio required extensive fine-tuning. Fortunately, the textured details of the lace cuffs and ruffled high collar were preserved crisply under the light.

Regarding pose guidance, I steered clear of exaggerated gestures because the character is inherently reserved and quiet. Hugging the rabbit, resting my chin on one hand, and glancing gently over my shoulder—paired with the stark contrast of the night—crafted a remarkably soft mood. The dress features a cinched waist with metal buckle accents; tightening the belt firmly made bending over virtually impossible, yet the pleated skirt provided a graceful drape that looked exquisite under illumination.

Attending the Chengdu Worldline convention allowed me to connect with many fellow fans. Walking through the halls, people frequently recognized me as Sora-chan, and everyone was incredibly welcoming. Having experienced the original work years ago, the character left a profound impression on me; there is good reason she is celebrated as the pinnacle of the imouto archetype, with her complex personality and compelling narrative. Being able to bring this outfit to life fulfilled a long-held wish. There were minor hiccups during the shoot: uneven pavement outdoors caught the skirt hem several times, requiring help from my assistant, and the plush rabbit's ears got slightly flattened during a break, though it didn't impact the final frames.

The overall color grading leans cool, harmonizing smoothly with the dark night backdrop. In post-processing, curves adjustments crushed the deep blacks in the background while lifting facial highlights to keep the images translucent. Night portraits at conventions are notoriously tough to capture, demanding seamless lighting coordination, and I am grateful for the photographer's patience. Wearing this lace white dress and wig all day was tiring, but seeing the final frames made it entirely worthwhile. If I cosplay this look again, I might opt for a well-lit indoor studio or daytime outdoor shoot, as night lighting pushes gear to its limits. The venue was vast with steady foot traffic over those days. Convention photo results rely heavily on the ambient lighting; choosing a secluded spot virtually eliminated stray ambient light, providing ideal conditions for a night shoot. Communicating the desired mood beforehand—a cool, melancholic, yet purely aesthetic visual—ensured the color palette and composition aligned toward that vision. The white dress, silver hair, and grey bunny against the dark background and warm bokeh formed crisp, clean contrast. Standing in high heels for over an hour was exhausting, but reviewing the camera screen brought immense fulfillment. Ultimately, this photo set serves as a tribute to a beloved work, using cosplay to briefly bring the character to life in three dimensions.
