[Blade cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Chilling Lethality Amid Chains and Red Flowers

Diving straight into the topic: from finalizing the concept to the actual shoot, the biggest challenge for this Blade set was finding that state of being both restrained and bursting with explosive intensity. As a female cosplaying male character, I needed to reshape my facial bone structure and contours using makeup. Especially around the eyes, the faint glow of the red pupils had to pierce through the dark fringe, while the slightly upturned eyeliner conveyed that sense of detachment and ruthlessness.

For the first set with a black iron chain background and red flower foreground, I especially love the storytelling born from the clash between heavy metal and fragile blooms. Before the shoot, I studied the character's lore extensively; that complex emotion of being bound by destiny, remaining indifferent yet harboring a faint reluctance, had to be conveyed through simple standing postures, gazes, and hand gestures. Heavy silver chains crossing diagonally through the frame instantly set the perfect mood.

The costume details are extremely solid. The outer black leather coat features jacquard patterns, while the inner golden breastplate texture is crisp and defined. The knot made of black cord and orange beads on the chest serves as the visual anchor of the entire outfit. For the hands, I deliberately wrapped white bandages around one hand and wore a black leather glove on the other. This asymmetrical design added great flair during shooting, providing distinct focal points whether resting on the sword or raising a hand.

When I first held the greatsword prop, I was honestly a bit intimidated by its size and weight. But after repeatedly adjusting my grip and posture, I found it matched the golden armor and black-and-blue color-blocked coat exceptionally well. That heavy physical presence actually enhanced the character's aura.

The white studio backdrop set, on the other hand, focused on showcasing the sharp lethality of the greatsword prop. The sword was faithfully crafted, with golden fracture lines and a sapphire on the crossguard acting as highlights. The benefit of a white studio background is that it displays the textures of the costume and props clearly, but it also tests the model's presence, as the clean backdrop focuses all attention on movements and expressions. I tried several angles—whether holding the blade upright to partially conceal my face or wielding it diagonally with both hands, these framing choices evoked a palpable sense of danger.

The character's "Mara-Struck" lore provided strong psychological immersion during the shoot. The calmer I appeared, the more one could feel the surging undercurrent beneath the surface. Although holding the sword for so long made my arms sore, the heavy weight actually helped me enter the character's headspace faster, as holding a weighty weapon naturally forces a guarded, resolute posture.

Between the two sets of photos, the dark tone is steeped in mystery and suppressed emotion, while the bright tone displays the sharp, clean-cut edge characteristic of Blade. Under both distinct styles of cosplay photography, he exhibits powerful individuality. With the high completion level of the costume and gear, combined with continuous communication with the photographer regarding posing and gaze angles throughout the shoot, I am personally very satisfied with the final result.
