Shooting this set by the ocean, the most visceral sensations were the fierce sunlight and the booming roar of crashing waves. To capture the breathtaking beauty of Sparkling water, we deliberately waded into the surf at high noon when ambient light peaked. While the photos might look serene as if caressed by a gentle breeze, standing upon Coastal rocks in reality meant being surrounded by the deafening percussion of water slamming against stone, with ferocious gales constantly whipping the wig out of alignment.
This look features striking textural contrasts. The top is a pleated white bikini accented by delicate metallic chains, paired with blue-and-white ribboned swim bottoms below, complemented by black cutout arm bracers. This collision of airy lightness and structured weight created sharp visual depth under harsh direct sunlight. The blue-violet ombré cascading down the hair tips, along with the white hair accessory centered with a crimson five-pointed star, added distinctive focal details. To honor the Little Mermaid motif, I posed completely barefoot. In truth, walking across Coastal rocks crusted with barnacles and slick moss was painful and precarious; maintaining a relaxed, graceful seated pose demanded continuous core tension and engaged leg muscles, as the slightest slip could have sent me tumbling into the surf.
During takes, incoming tides fully submerged my calves, with occasional rogue swells splashing violently across my legs and swimwear. Seawater mingling with sunscreen gave the skin a slick, glistening sheen, which serendipitously accentuated muscular contours before the lens. Even though both Honkai: Star Rail and GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE reference the Little Mermaid concept, I avoided rigidly mimicking canonical in-game idle animations. Instead, I focused on utilizing the natural elevation drops of the Coastal rocks to flatter bodily silhouettes. In the third shot, for instance, dropping my shoulders, shifting center of gravity back, and slightly bending one knee allowed me to accentuate waist curves without looking rigid or strained.
Backlit composition posed the ultimate hurdle: shooting directly against blinding sunlight practically washed out the viewfinder in pure white glare. To keep my face from sinking into pitch-black shadow, I continually adjusted my chin angle to catch diffuse specular reflections rising off the water. The optical refraction of the surf created a visual elongation along my legs, which, combined with intense sunlight contrast, gave the raw, unedited captures a profoundly dramatic chiaroscuro aesthetic.
The entire shoot lasted roughly two hours, leaving crusts of evaporated sea salt across my arms and thighs, alongside fine sand wedged deep into the wig tresses. Yet gazing at these finished frames filled with Sparkling water, that authentic, raw vitality born from battling oceanic winds and churning swells is something a studio could never replicate. It was an unforgettable production, made possible by seamless synergy with my photographer.
