This time I tried the look of Sparkle from Honkai: Star Rail. Actually, during the preparation stage, the things I struggled with most were the combing for the wig styling and the accuracy of the eye makeup. The silver-white straight bangs wig needed to be trimmed to have a lightweight, airy feel, and shouldn't be too heavy; otherwise, it would weigh down the eyebrows and eyes, losing that nimble yet slightly cunning temperament of the character. The sheen of the hair strands also needed to be controlledātoo bright looks like plastic, while too matte lacks that translucent feel unique to the 2D world. Therefore, I used a small amount of hair wax and smoothing spray to thin out the hair ends into natural wispy strands, which makes the head shape look fuller in high-angle shots, while ensuring that the bangs covering the eyebrows don't interfere with the expression of the gaze.
The eye makeup section is the soul of this cosplay. The original character's pupils are a deep wine red, so I chose a pair of large-diameter reddish-brown colored contacts with a faint black ring around the outer edge, which instantly captures the focus of the gaze under the camera lens. The eyeliner wasn't drawn too long; instead, I used a slightly upturned cat-eye technique, combined with a few hand-drawn lower eyelashes on the lower eyelid, creating a look that is both innocent and slightly playful, serving as a mini eye makeup tutorial. The hand-drawn small red heart under the left eye is the crowning touch. I specially dotted it on with a lip glaze pen; the color is vibrant with soft edges, blending naturally with the orange-pink transition of the blush. Under the right eye, I used a white highlighter pen to dot a small cross, similar to a star symbol, adding a touch of diamond-like nimbleness. The lip color selected is a matte rose mauve, which doesn't steal the spotlight from the eye makeup but maintains the overall healthy complexion.
Regarding the costume, I cared quite a bit about the neckline design. The black velvet choker paired with a small golden bow tie buckle provides a sharp contrast in texture. The choker shouldn't be strapped too tightly; otherwise, the neck easily looks short, so I left a tiny gap to visually elongate the neck line. The outer red sailor collar has white piping along the edges; this red-and-white color scheme is highly classic and flatters the skin tone well. To exhibit the character's approachability from a high-angle perspective, I adjusted my hand gesture, lightly propping my chin with my single index finger. This avoids blocking the neck decorations while naturally guiding the line of sight to the facial features.
During the shoot, a soft front diffuse light source was used to avoid harsh shadows, making the base makeup look more flawless and allowing the silver strands to reflect a soft halo. Although there was no complex scene background this time, the clean white backdrop conversely highlighted the character itself. Actually, every cosplay is like a miniature character analysis; from hair color to eye color, and from expression management to body language, everything needs repeated deliberation for this casual cosplay log. This Sparkle cosplay styling leans sweet overall, but it's not entirely a good-girl image; that tiny sense of mischief hidden within the smile is what I want to transmit through the lens the most. Putting on this gear, I feel like I've also caught a bit of that liveliness and wonder from the Astral Express.
