The theme of a marionette actually has a wonderful resonance with the character of Wakaba Mutsumi and the stage presence created by Ave Mujica. The core concept of this photoshoot is the "controlled Id," where we try to express the contradiction of being manipulated yet longing for self-awareness through the puppet's perspective.

First, let's talk about the hair, makeup, and styling. To fit the character's cool and slightly sickly, delicate temperament, I specially chose this mint-green long straight wig with straight bangs and long sidelocks, which frames the face beautifully while forming a sharp color contrast with the overall black Gothic Lolita attire. A lot of effort went into the makeup; using a very clean and pale base, I focused on emphasizing the presence of the upper and lower eyelashes as well as the eyeliner to create a "doll eye" effect that is both expressive yet hollow. Paired with colored contact lenses, once the gaze turns cold, that sense of detachment instantly falls into place.

The design details of the costume are incredibly rich. The neckline features an intricate choker made of black velvet and sequins that fits snugly around the neck, looking exceptionally noble. The top utilizes a black fabric with a subtle reflective texture, resembling leather yet possessing a fluid luster, and the mint green ribbons embellishing the chest echo the wig's color beautifully. The voluminous bubble sleeves and the white lace trim at the cuffs infuse a touch of softness and classic elegance into the overall dark vibe. The lower half of the skirt is distinctly layered, featuring a black ruffled miniskirt, a white lace hem, and black semi-sheer polka-dot stockings with lace-up details, making it look both exquisite and slightly fragile. To match the overall "marionette" atmosphere, the glittering black tulle and deep cyan glossy fabric trailing on the ground resemble the drawn curtains of a puppet theater stage.

The addition of props gives this photo set an even stronger narrative feel. The thin black thread I hold in my hand in the first photo stands out vividly against the pure white background, substantializing the concept of treating oneself as a marionette through each individual string. In the subsequent photos, the opened vintage brown suitcase and the mint green plush rabbit held in my arms resemble the marionette's "dressing room." The soft, fluffy texture of the rabbit, combined with the metal clasps on the edges of the suitcase, seems to whisper a sense of loneliness: "Once the suitcase is closed, I become completely still." Within these seemingly serene elements, I try to capture that glint of vitality hidden deep inside the puppet's heart.

Regarding the choice of photographic techniques, we specifically designed two different scenes. The mirror photography in the indoor vintage setting provides a highly visually striking element to this set. Facing a massive wooden-framed mirror, I attempted to lock eyes with the "self" in the reflection. The lighting was meticulously planned, utilizing high-contrast hard light to cast deep shadows on the cheeks and clothing folds, making the character's presence remarkably dimensional. This composition, where reality and illusion interweave, perfectly echoes the dual-personality setting of the "Id," resembling a dialogue between the original self and the marionette. On the other hand, the white background studio shoot was cleaner and more concise, focusing all attention completely on my expressions and movements at that time.

The day of the shoot was actually exhausting, as this costume is heavily layered, and combined with the massive headpiece and trailing skirt, moving around was not very convenient. Every adjustment of the props and the angles of the lights consumed a great deal of physical energy, but seeing that naturally flawless doll-like presence in the viewfinder made me feel that every bit of effort was worthwhile. Standing in front of the mirror after completing the styling, I even had the illusion of involuntarily holding my breath. This is precisely the charm of cosplay—it allows people to briefly escape reality and experience a completely different state of life and emotional expression.
