[Komeiji Koishi Cosplay] The Little Magical Girl of Touhou Chireiden ~ Subterranean Animism

Putting on this Komeiji Koishi cosplay gear, my first feeling was that my entire body was wrapped in various velvets and laces. From the green wig to the layers of the oversized hat, the entire look is highly meticulous in its details. The deep green rose dark-patterned fabric of the collar paired with black-backed lace, along with that giant yellow-green gemstone bow tie, instantly creates a vintage yet gorgeous visual clash. For me, the true cute point of this outfit, besides the color scheme, lies in that top-heavy feeling when wearing it—because the hat is huge and the skirt is layered, it makes me look particularly petite in the lens, perfectly fitting that casual yet mysterious girlhood vibe of Touhou Chireiden ~ Subterranean Animism.

In terms of makeup, the light green colored contacts paired with soft-colored lipstick give an overall ethereal and translucent feel. To go with this Gothic Lolita dress, I put some effort into the eye makeup, extending the eyeliner to give it both a magician's intelligence and a touch of lazy everyday casualness. For the hairstyle, the wig not only has bangs to shape the face, but the slender hair locks on both sides also become a unique feature, beautifully neutralizing the heavy feel of the hat.

This shoot was conducted in a setting with natural stone walls. The rough texture of the stones and the smooth silk fabric of the dress form an interesting collision of textures. In close-up shots, one can clearly see the vine details on the purple wand and the metallic luster of the silver sword in hand. When taking a full-body mirror selfie, I intentionally added an outer graffiti effect to add a touch of fairytale and abstract atmosphere.

The character Komeiji Koishi itself holds a highly unique status in Touhou Project's fan culture. Her secluded setting of being forgotten by the world, combined with the background of Touhou Chireiden ~ Subterranean Animism, allows for many different ways of expression when portraying her. What I wanted to capture was her seemingly casual, yet actually cute and slightly mysterious state. Therefore, whether it was a close-up with a slightly upturned corner of the mouth or a moment playing with the wand in hand, I tried my best to stay relaxed and natural.

Speaking of the outfit's accessories, the oversized black hat brim is truly difficult to pull off, but once worn, it instantly maximizes the recognition of the entire styling. The black platform shoes on my feet, paired with heart-shaped plush charms, pull the overall center of gravity downward, echoing the oversized hat on my head, making me look like a round little witch. During post-processing, I didn't add overly complex filters, preserving the original color saturation of the costume, especially the color-blocking of the yellow bow tie and the green skirt hem, which is highly photogenic.

The entire shooting process was actually quite relaxed; there was no need to deliberately strike exaggerated poses. A natural smile or a slight tilt of the head was enough to bring out this mysterious yet playful cute charm. The texture of this costume truly exceeded expectations, especially the dark patterns on the sleeves and collar, giving the photos a sophisticated feel. As a Touhou Project enthusiast, being able to restore the character's spirit in this way brings a great sense of achievement.
