[Shinobu Oshino cosplay] Monogatari Series' Shinobu arrives at Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo!

Today's Convention photo features Shinobu Oshino from the Monogatari Series, modeled by myself. To capture Shinobu's signature blend of adorable charm and mysterious allure, extensive effort went into the initial makeup and styling. The wig chosen was a vibrant golden-orange long straight wig with neatly trimmed blunt bangs that, together with the face-framing sidelocks, flattered my face shape nicely. The most critical props were the elf ears; a secure attachment was paramount, otherwise they would easily slip off while walking around the convention hall all day. The attire consisted of a halter-neck dress in white with pink piping, accented by bright pink bows on the chest and waist flanks. The skirt featured a dual-layered design: crisp white outer fabric over soft pink inner tulle, producing prominent wave-like ripples during motion. The straw hat was deliberately chosen with wavy ruffled edges to add a touch of pastoral, breezy leisure.

The shooting took place in the Convention photo area at the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo. Anyone who has attended conventions knows that the lighting on-site is notoriously complex and foot traffic is massive, making it difficult to scout clean backgrounds. At the end of a corridor, we found a zone with grey pillars and reflective flooring, where the cool architectural backdrop formed a striking contrast with the warm-toned white-and-pink dress and golden hair. The weather was rather humid that day; despite solid air conditioning indoors, wearing the full costume, wig, and hat required frequent makeup touch-ups. To catch the dynamic flutter of the skirt, I had to continuously spin and do slight hops in front of the lens while managing facial expressions—poking out my tongue, clenching cute fists, or lightly touching my cheek. After dozens of consecutive shots, the physical toll was noticeable, but seeing the graceful arcs of the hair strands and skirt made every bit worth it.

As for the gear used, the camera body was a Sony A7M4 paired with a Tamron lens. This focal range proved remarkably versatile for indoor convention halls. The 35mm end clearly established the architectural setting and ambient vibe behind the subject, while zooming in toward 100mm allowed swift transitions to half-body close-ups. When freezing dynamic moments, the A7M4's real-time Eye AF was an absolute lifesaver, locking firmly onto the eyes even while I was constantly in motion. The wide aperture delivered creamy depth of field that smoothly blurred out the chaotic convention background, highlighting the subject. For full-body framing, the photographer intentionally adopted a low-angle upward perspective, which visually lengthened leg proportions while giving the billowing skirt immense visual impact. The overall color grading came out clean and transparent, with the light-colored outfit creating a standout contrast against the cool-toned backdrop.
