The theme for this photoshoot was set around Japanese sweet style, choosing a classic red-and-white plaid female chef cosplay outfit. The overall look might appear simple at first glance, but capturing that manga-like vibe—full of energetic girl spirit yet tinged with gentle languor—requires meticulous attention to fine details.
Regarding the outfit, the red-and-white plaid bandana and pinafore apron serve as the soul of the look, paired with a multi-layered white tulle skirt to keep the color palette bright and cheerful. I intentionally wore white stockings, which not only flatter the lines of the legs but also visually enhance the youthful maiden charm. The beige and white plush toys in my hands served as wonderful interactive props, infusing the frames with a soft, cuddly presence. To complement this attire, I kept my natural black short hair with blunt bangs without overly elaborate braids, and the makeup focused on a clear, translucent base with natural peachy-pink lip color to emphasize a healthy, radiant glow.
The shooting location was set on a dark indoor sofa against deep-toned windows and walls. This darker environment beautifully accentuated the bright white tulle and white stockings, creating a high contrast between light and shadow that made the main subject pop. We used bright, diffused soft light that brought a clean translucence to the skin. During the session, the photographer constantly guided me to relax, as the essence of Japanese style photography lies in natural authenticity. I tried to immerse myself in a cozy weekend-at-home mindset—lounging on the couch, daydreaming with plushies, and avoiding rigid, artificial poses.
In terms of posing, I avoided stiff postures. For instance, sitting sideways while hugging the plushie and gazing out of frame created an effortless candid feel; lifting the plushie above my head with a bright smile brought out that energetic girl atmosphere; leaning or reclining against the sofa with legs crossed or extended forward introduced depth to the composition while showcasing leg contours and the smooth texture of the white stockings. Furthermore, the slightly lower neckline paired with a relaxed reclining pose added a subtle mature charm beneath the sweet style, revealing multifaceted sides of myself.
Many people think shooting sweet style can easily look theatrical, but the secret lies in harmonizing your gaze with body language. The eyes need focus; even when looking away from the camera, they should convey emotion. Physically, shoulders should be dropped and relaxed, with natural finger bends rather than gripping the plushies with tension. Throughout the shoot, I explored diverse angles—from direct eye contact with the camera to glancing back over the shoulder—with each perspective evoking a distinct mood.
In post-processing, I preserved authentic skin texture without excessive smoothing, focusing on balancing color tones so that the red-and-white plaid popped vividly while keeping deep contrast in the shadowed backdrop. This left the overall image looking bright and richly textured. I am personally very satisfied with this set—not just because the outfit is adorable, but because it faithfully captured those relaxed, joyful moments.
