[Cirno cosplay] Touhou Project Ice Fairy Photoshoot Log

Pre-production on costumes and props for this Touhou Project Cirno cosplay photoshoot took considerable dedication. For the wig, I selected a light icy blue with subtle gray undertones, trimming the bangs and sideburns to embody the character's signature cool-toned texture. The most challenging element was the set of diamond-shaped ice-crystal wings on my back; to achieve a translucent yet refractive look on camera, we chose iridescent acrylic material that refracted rainbow highlights under the light. As for the costume, the blue-and-white Lolita dress featured numerous tiers, with layers of lace and ruffles lending substantial volume, requiring precise petticoat adjustments to maintain a natural bell curve.

The shoot took place in a venue featuring a Japanese wooden corridor and tatami room, with sprawling pink faux cherry blossoms overhead and Japanese paper lanterns accenting the sides. Sunlight was quite intense that day, but photographer Buri found flattering natural light right along the shadow edge of the veranda. To match the character's signature poses, I spent most of the session seated along the edge of the dark wooden floor, either letting my legs dangle or crossing them. While appearing effortless, keeping an upright torso without collapsing the skirt flare demanded continuous core engagement and careful center-of-gravity shifts. The pairing of White stockings and black Mary Janes elongated leg lines, bringing a light, playful equilibrium to the composition.

In terms of poses and expressions, I experimented with reaching toward the lens, resting my cheek on one hand, and winking. Incorporating a small black teapot and matching teacups prepared by the prop crew added an engaging slice-of-life feel. Because the veranda provided distinct height variations, alternating between top-down and eye-level shots effectively emphasized the depth between the subject, blossoms, and lanterns. Between takes, I routinely checked the wig against breezes and movement to keep strand details neat and frizz-free.

Overall, the color palette of this series is remarkably cohesive, with the character's icy blue tones forming a pleasing contrast against the pink cherry blossoms and warm lanterns. Thanks to the photographer's mastery of depth of field and lighting, the frames achieved wonderful visual depth. As a long-time Touhou Project fan and cosplayer, capturing Cirno's spirited, slightly mischievous demeanor was a deeply rewarding experience.
