[Herta cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Genius Society: Naked-eye 3D Visuals Under the Golden Frame

For this shoot, I primarily wanted to experiment with using a picture frame as a visual leading line to capture Herta's enigmatic and slightly bewitching aura in this Herta cosplay from Honkai: Star Rail. When communicating with the photographer during pre-production, we clearly established the goal of creating a Naked-eye 3D visual effect, with this vintage carved golden frame serving as our centerpiece prop. The costume is rich with intricate details: the deep blue wide-brimmed hat at the crown features signature geometric patterns, while the black corset bodice on the chest is inlaid with a silver heart-shaped emblem and surrounded by cascading white lace ruffles. To enhance overall layering, the bottom was paired with White stockings, effectively brightening the visual focal point against the dark background.

The shooting location was set inside a study featuring dark wooden bookshelves and moody, subdued lighting—an environment naturally exuding an ambiance where academic rigor and sorcery intertwine. In terms of lighting design, the key light was set quite hard, directly illuminating my face and the metallic embellishments on the bodice, while the rim light carried subtle blue-purple hues to sharply carve out the subject's contours. Holding up the picture frame actually made my wrists and shoulders rather sore because this metallic frame was far heavier than anticipated, yet maintaining absolute stillness was essential for the lens's depth of field. The frame served not only as a foreground framing element, but also created an uncanny displacement like stepping into a looking-glass world. Combined with a low upward camera angle, it truly produced a Naked-eye 3D illusion of the character stepping out from the painting in this framed photography.

The pairing of White stockings and black high heels added a captivating hint of dangerous allure beyond mere luxury. The pacing of the entire shoot was kept tightly controlled, as the frame's perspective lines and human visual focal points required continuous fine-tuning. The moment the finished cuts came through, I truly felt the physical weight of the prop had not been in vain—the depth of the frame resonated flawlessly with the receding lines of the bookshelves behind. I am especially fond of this photo set, as both light, shadow, and composition achieved our desired vision. Regarding makeup, I deliberately emphasized depth around the eyes, which, combined with the silver-white wig, lent my demeanor an even cooler, more mysterious air.

In terms of shooting technique, utilizing a wide aperture to blur the background locked visual focus firmly onto the character inside the frame. This frame-within-a-frame composition, coupled with my slightly downcast gaze, shattered conventional flat perspectives, imbuing the photograph with inherent spatial depth. When tackling this genre, you can also experiment with using heavy frames as foreground elements to enrich narrative storytelling. Regarding garment textile choices, the glossy leather of the corset formed a sharp tactile contrast against the matte finish of the lace, which was key to elevating the image's layered depth. Overall, this photoshoot challenging Naked-eye 3D was a thoroughly enjoyable experience—coordinating props with lighting within a confined space successfully forged a visual impact that shattered the fourth wall between dimensions.
