For this outdoor shoot, I selected a classic Japanese bridal style. The overall palette is anchored in soft pink and pure white: the upper body features a corset silhouette adorned with lace and bows, finished with back lacing to sculpt a tailored fit. The lower half expands into an exceptionally heavy, voluminous tiered skirt layered with multi-ply tulle and satin, lavishly embellished with three-dimensional pink roses. To complement the gown, I paired it with long white lace gloves, White stockings with garter straps, and light pink heeled boots. For the hairstyle, I tried a voluminous orange side braid—often playfully referred to as the 'Death flag hairstyle.' Due to the dense hair volume, I had to adjust its position continually throughout the shoot to avoid blocking my sight line or appearing top-heavy. The makeup accentuated deep, sculpted eyes and rich lip shades, accented by white cross decals on the cheeks and doll-like lenses to heighten the dreamy aesthetic.
The Seaside photoshoot was staged at an oceanfront terrace featuring white walls, classical archways, and a glass skywalk. The weather was dazzlingly clear, offering an intense azure sky with dimensional, pillowy clouds. However, harsh overhead sunlight presented massive challenges: keeping my eyes wide under direct glare was difficult, requiring the photographer to find precise angles and use reflectors to balance facial exposure. When shooting back-facing shots along the glass skywalk, the sun was blinding, but the mirrored reflections cast onto the glass surface looked breathtaking. The most exhausting aspect was traversing uneven, rugged terrain in high-heeled boots while managing tiers of a heavy gown, constantly switching positions between white archways, the glass walkway, stone pedestals, and withered branches.
To highlight the rich layers of the skirt, I reclined sideways along the edge of an archway and laid back on a stone plinth with legs elevated, allowing sunlight to filter through the sheer tulle to reveal luminous textures. In the withered tree setup, the rugged, weathered trunk formed a striking textural contrast against the soft, luxurious pink gown. As ocean breezes swept across the terrace, blowing the voluminous skirt upward, I had to continuously smooth the hem with my hands while keeping facial expressions serene and eyes focused. During intense gusts, both the wig and gloves would shift out of place, pausing the shoot for restyling. It demanded considerable physical stamina, requiring constant hydration and layers of sunscreen.
Although outdoor photography is demanding, reviewing the camera monitor and seeing the chemistry between brilliant sunlight, blue skies, and this bridal dress made all the exhaustion vanish. Pushing boundaries in both styling and pose dynamics for this project, I hope to share the romantic, vibrant allure of this Japanese bridal style vision with everyone.
