For this convention, I cosplayed Nahida—the Lesser Lord Kusanali—who is one of my personal favorites. Now that the Convention photos are back, I wanted to share some thoughts and experiences.
Regarding the styling, the outfit is richly layered: the dominant green tone accented with white lace and sheer organza sleeves looks fairy-like, though maneuvering through crowded halls with sleeves that long proved slightly cumbersome. The wig features silver-white hair fading into light green twintails; keeping the strands silky and tangle-free was vital to capturing her ethereal presence. The silicone Elf ears required pin-curling the hair behind them neatly to prevent bare edges from showing. Floral and leaf headpieces were secured to clips with hot glue, adding noticeable weight over time. For makeup, enlarging the eyes with teal contacts matched the character's aesthetic, accompanied by subtle facial contouring to keep the complexion clean and porcelain.
Posing took real endurance. Conveying lightness that could scatter with the wind demanded low squats and three-quarter angles. Gently covering my mouth with my right hand while maintaining a detached, slightly startled gaze channeled her iconic lore—'Let the world completely forget me.' Holding a vacant gaze without smiling too sweetly was key. The summer heat and non-breathable fabrics, combined with numb legs from crouching, meant taking quick stretching breaks between bursts. The photographer was fantastic, scouting a lawn bordered by red-and-white tape and blurring the background to let sunlight backlight the wig and sheer sleeves with luminous clarity.
Portraying Sumeru's God of Wisdom who was forgotten by her own people created a poignant contrast against the warm, crowded event where fellow fans approached for photos. Managing costume textures, packing backup clips, and utilizing natural backlighting all elevated the set. Next time, I might dust leaves and floral stamens with glow powder for an even dreamier look in dimmer lighting.
