[Arknights Wcos] Qingdao DCSP Ballet Dress Photoshoot Sharing

This time, I shot the ballet dress styling for W from Arknights on-site at the Qingdao DCSP convention.

The venue was inside the main hall, which featured very smooth floor tiles with a mirror-like reflective surface. The entire shooting environment utilized expansive cool-toned light sources with precise light control. Even though there were some red signage and cluttered silhouettes of people in the background, the overall color palette was unified into a cool, crisp blue tone.

This styling is centered around a white ballet tulle dress, paired with White stockings and vivid red elements. For makeup and hair, the makeup artist specifically adjusted the red eye contacts and lip shade, while adding small fangs at the corner of the mouth. Paired with the long black horns on my head, the entire persona balanced the purity of white with the danger of red. Since the shoot was taking place right at the convention, I spent plenty of time getting ready in advance—styling the wig, fixing the mechanical gear earrings, and putting on the white ballet shoes and White stockings.

We designed a diverse set of poses during the shoot. The first set was standing with arms raised high, utilizing overhead top lighting to highlight the gleam on the hair, which, combined with the floor reflection, created a very clean visual. Next, we tried several seated poses on the floor. Because the floor tiles were very slick, sitting on the floor in White stockings made it tricky to keep my balance, requiring constant leg strength to maintain a stable posture.

The most challenging pose was the high leg extension resting on the stand in picture nine. The fabric of the White stockings is naturally smooth, and keeping the leg extended straight for a long period demanded high core strength and leg flexibility. To capture that light yet tension-filled ballet grace, I kept my toes pointed straight onto the stand while controlling my facial expression toward the lens without letting my body stiffen.

The convention venue was actually quite noisy, with many staff members and passersby visible in the background. Staying focused to produce high-quality Convention photos in such an environment required blocking out external distractions. The photographer repeatedly adjusted the angles through the viewfinder; with every slight shift in light angle and direction, the shape of the floor reflection would change. The photo assistants kept fine-tuning reflectors and light stands—for actions like tying shoe ribbons or holding the red cord, positioning was precise down to the centimeter to prevent extraneous shadows in the reflection.

Post-processing mainly centered on light and shadow rather than simply boosting contrast and brightness. White garments easily lose texture, so we had to carefully control exposure while retaining ambient reflections and highlights on the floor, giving it a texture almost like ice. For the skin, only fundamental skin tone equalization was done to preserve the body's natural contours without excessive liquification.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the final result of this photo set. The unique lighting at the convention venue combined with the photographer's crisp, solid style allowed this styling and cosplay look to be presented in its fullest form.
