This shoot took place during a break at the convention when photographer Dongyuan found an empty studio. Cool-toned lighting makes it effortless to channel Jeanne Alter's cold, elegant, and dark attributes from Fate/Grand Order. Slipping into this blue-purple dress with a white apron, paired with black stockings and chunky-heeled boots, instantly brought the character to life. The blue contacts, black gloves, and wig also required careful styling—especially the white hair, which needed repeated setting spray to keep its fluffy volume.
The most physically demanding part was swinging the swords and tossing the large fabric. For the fabric-pulling pose in Photo 1, Dongyuan and I tested it numerous times to generate dynamic tension in the frame. The fabric was heavy, and balancing facial expressions with posture nearly threw off my center of gravity several times. In comparison, holding two swords in Photo 4 was easier. Though not excessively heavy, raising a sword with one hand at the wrong angle disrupts the line of the composition, requiring deliberate wrist control and core shifting to flatter the silhouette.
To convey alluring appeal, shooting in black stockings during winter truly tested my skin condition. Cold air hitting my legs easily caused goosebumps, so we used heat packs on my lower back and had an assistant warm my thighs during breaks to keep the skin texture smooth. As for the heels, while the pose in Photo 4 elongated my leg lines, standing for so long was exhausting. To channel the haughty, fierce gaze, I held my expression steadily under the lamps. The reflective studio floor looked fantastic on camera, and the muted blue grading in post placed Jeanne Alter right at the boundary of light and shadow with rich storytelling depth.
This session was not just about recreating costumes and props, but also exploring the character's persona. Under Dongyuan's direction, I learned how to gaze unblinkingly into the lens in such a cool-toned environment. Swinging the long pole in Photo 3 was tricky—raising it directly above the shoulders combined with the billow of the white fabric created seamless, fluid lines. In post-processing, I intentionally retained the raw dynamic motion blur around the edges without over-retouching, keeping the final visual authentic and sharp.
Overall, the shoot during the convention was deeply fulfilling. Roaming the convention floor in this outfit connected me with many fellow fans who praised this classic palette. Taking off the heels afterward revealed blistered red feet, but the final photos were worth every bit. Dongyuan's photography captured my fiercest postures through a masterclass in light and shadow.
Perhaps next time we can explore even more powerful action poses in a similar cool-toned setup. Standing under the blue lights, holding blades of varying lengths, that commanding presence naturally took over. While the dress has exposed shoulders, the apron and opera gloves balanced the look, highlighting the character's appeal. Beyond roleplay, this shoot challenged my on-camera performance. I have always loved Jeanne Alter's decisive personality; her haughty, world-scorning gaze and resolute posture are the soul of the character. Achieving that required complete focus in the eyes. Receiving the finished photos made all the exhaustion vanish.
While tweaking the cool-toned lights, I noticed Dongyuan added a wonderful softbox overhead, which, together with the floor reflections, made the entire silhouette appear to glow. The side-standing pose in Photo 2 emphasized waist contours and the sheen of the black stockings, demanding toes gripping the shoes firmly to sustain balance. Standing-heavy shoots always leave calf muscles sore, but reviewing the on-screen previews made it all worthwhile. I remain obsessed with fine details—from the head bow's placement to the apron ruffles—refining each through repeated adjustments for optimal visual impact.
Experiencing it firsthand proved that a combat-ready maid uniform offers an incredible aesthetic contrast. Before the cool-toned backdrop, alternating between wielding sharp swords and swirling my skirt felt like channeling the character's inner core. The studio was free of distractions, and with the background smoothly blurred, all focus converged on me. Thanks to our seamless teamwork, the hit rate was high, leaving me thoroughly satisfied as I admired the finished set on screen.
