[Ruan Mei cosplay] Stunning Qipao Showcase from Honkai: Star Rail

Wearing this cyan-blue Qipao required paying far more attention to detail than expected. The garment's fabric composition is quite interesting: the upper body provides firm support to hold the chest cutout design securely in place, while the skirt is made of a sheer gauze fabric with excellent drape, creating a natural flow when walking. Since I went bare-legged to accentuate the leg lines, balancing the visual impact of Long legs while guarding against exposure from the high slit was essential; the position of the leg ring was adjusted repeatedly to keep the demarcation looking clean and sharp.

The wig styling incorporated an updo combined with braids, accessorized with gold hair ornaments, making the overall weight quite noticeable. The most time-consuming part of the process was styling the bangs—to capture Ruan Mei's temperament, the curvature had to be just right. The hollowed-out round fan in hand had a fantastic texture, with its pink tassel draping naturally, which enriched the composition nicely during mirror selfies.

I chose to take full-body mirror photos because the tailoring of this outfit is exceptionally well-suited for displaying a slender silhouette. For a character known for Long legs, utilizing mirror reflection angles to optimize proportions was key. Posing with slightly arched toes and shifting weight backward visually extended the leg lines. The subtle patterns on the dress reflected light like fishbones, creating an engaging visual dialogue with the fish hanging scroll on the background wall.

Because of the high slit, shooting outdoors demands extreme caution. I wore it indoors for a long time to get accustomed to it, finally finding a stance that conveyed the elegant maturity of an older-sister archetype without looking too stiff. The pointed-toe high heels in matching blue unified the overall aesthetic. Rather than showing my entire face, I relied on strands of hair, props, and the silhouette of the outfit to evoke the character's ambiance. Comparing angle-testing shots from both sides, I finally settled on a pose that best embodied the character's aloof demeanor. Documenting these outfit moments on my phone was an authentic and direct way to experience the cosplay.
