Pre-production for this shoot took roughly two weeks, primarily aimed at faithfully recreating Tohsaka Rin's coordinate from the Honkai: Star Rail x FGO collaboration. For the wig, I selected long straight hair in deep dark-brown tones, keeping blunt bangs across the forehead and razor-sculpted side locks, topped with black horn-shaped headpieces and ribbon bow hairbands. In cosmetics, blue contact lenses brightened the gaze, complemented by deepened reddish-pink smudging along the outer eye corners and a translucent porcelain base, applying heavier contouring than usual to carve sculpted dimensionality on camera.
The costume architecture is quite intricate: the outer layer is a cropped crimson jacket worn open, detailed with black interior lining, cuff piping, and golden button hardware. The inner base is a black sleeveless fitted top embellished with silver zippers, metallic chains, and geometric hardware. The lower half features an asymmetric spliced skirt hemline combining a white base with dark grey panels and gold borders, flanked by draped golden chains and ruby embellishments. Most striking are the sheer Black stockings hugging the legs and the chunky-heeled white ankle boots, accented with metallic ankle buckles that enrich the bold red-and-black contrast with refined layering.
For props, I custom-crafted an illuminated dagger with an acrylic blade and integrated LED light strips that cast an otherworldly yellow-green fluorescence on camera. To complement this gritty industrial and wasteland aesthetic, we scouted an indoor set furnished with a distressed leather sofa, vintage CRT television, exposed metal pipes, and wooden shipping crates. The space was further dressed with graffiti-covered brick walls, metallic staircases, and discarded tires, illuminated by warm amber cinematic ambient lights that flattered natural skin tones and metallic sheens while heightening the desolate atmosphere.
Pose management was a primary focus during the shoot. In the standing pose resting one foot atop a wooden crate while brandishing the glowing dagger, sustaining balance demanded tight core engagement alongside a calm, aloof, and cool demeanor. The frames seated on the leather couch aimed to project a relaxed yet vigilant tension. Handling the roles of model, photographer, and retoucher simultaneously meant running back and forth to inspect framing and calibrate lighting continuously. Post-processing color grading heightened the crimson-and-black contrast to make fabric textures pop, while retaining shadow details to maintain a moody, vintage aesthetic. Overall, from wardrobe styling to the final cuts, this collaborative Rin look involved dedicated craftsmanship across costume fidelity and environmental atmosphere.
