[Merlin cosplay] Elegant Showcase of the Magician of Flowers and Studio Cosplay Record

Putting together the styling for Merlin, the Magician of Flowers, was far more intricate than imagined. The layers included the inner top, white pleated skirt, dark blue gold-trimmed shawl, black gloves, and glossy heeled tall boots. The fitted black pants for the lower half offered great texture, visually flattering the leg silhouette with a subtle sheen under the cool studio lighting, which paired with the black heeled boots to make the body lines look strikingly upright. The silver-white long straight wig had to be combed smooth strand by strand to ensure no stray flyaways under the lights. The makeup used a lighter palette, softening eyeliner while emphasizing blended eyeshadow to capture the character's ethereal essence.

During the shoot, Master Aneng prepared pink petals against a pure white backdrop; capturing the frozen instant of falling petals took numerous attempts. When holding the staff, I had to harmonize the blue effect at the tip with the costume's color scheme, adjusting my wrist angle to ensure gestures appeared airy rather than stiff. The frontal composition is my favorite: raising the hand while letting the gaze fall gently, keeping the torso straight to showcase long legs and clean body proportions. The side glance back required engaging my core, relying on back and waist strength to maintain poise. Walking in tall boots and sleek Black stockings demanded careful pacing to maintain an elegant stride, which naturally immersed me in the character's inscrutable aura.

Because studio lighting was strong throughout the session, angles had to be constantly shifted to avoid sweat marks, while staff grip positions changed with each pose. To find the optimal state, I repeatedly coordinated shoulder and chin angles with the photographer. Shooting against a solid background places high demands on posture—neither slouching nor looking overly rigid. In post-processing, a light, translucent tone was preserved to highlight the wizard's dreamy quality. I selected the frontal standing shot as the cover because its framing is direct and the light distribution is balanced, clearly revealing costume details and elongated leg lines. From prop effects to wardrobe styling, this shoot provided immense inspiration on how to bring the character to life even better.
