[Mash cosplay] Mengka Anime Convention Fate/Grand Order Convention Photo Sharing

I finally received the Convention photos from Mengka Anime Convention, and the details of that shooting day are still fresh in my mind. This time, I cosplayed Mash from Fate/Grand Order. Because the lighting on site was quite complex, it really tested the photographer's ability to control the scene—huge thanks to photographer Huangzu for shooting this. The whole outfit features a white-and-gray color-blocked jacket with a black dress inside, paired with a white collared shirt and red tie. The geometric pattern on the necktie is detailed and accurate. For hair, I wore a pink wig and thin-rimmed glasses, holding a translucent white orb in my hands. It was my first time attempting a shoot holding this prop; the surface of the sphere was slippery, and posing took quite a bit of time to capture that delicate texture. The squatting pose in Photo 1 really tested my balance: to showcase the Black stockings and leg lines, I held that squat for quite a while, leaving my legs slightly numb when I stood up, but the resulting photos are very satisfying. The convention was crowded, and finding a relatively clean background wasn't easy, so it relied entirely on the photographer's angles. Anime conventions have this unique ambiance where everyone gathers over shared love for a work; although tiring, it is incredibly joyful. Even though this look feels somewhat like everyday wear, it is very recognizable at conventions. The red tie stands out strikingly against dark backgrounds—a fantastic design. Throughout the shoot, the photographer remained patient; since the prop orb caught reflections easily, he continually adjusted lighting angles to achieve the effects shown in the photos. When light hit me, soft rim lighting formed beautifully around the edges of the white jacket and hair. Mash's canon design gives her a gentle yet resilient aura, so I strived to reflect that in my movements and expressions. Choosing glasses and short pink hair, I adjusted my makeup accordingly—especially the eye makeup: to match that calm, slightly melancholic gaze, I used reddish-brown eyeshadow and kept blush very light, creating a cool and clean aesthetic. In post-processing, the photographer preserved my natural skin texture without over-smoothing, resulting in very natural lighting. The white-and-gray hooded jacket is loose and oversized; pairing it with a black dress and Black stockings visually elongated my body proportions. That squatting pose in Photo 1 tested leg muscle strength, and I adjusted my ankle angles multiple times to highlight the leg contours. With heavy foot traffic and unstable lighting, producing these storytelling Convention photos was all thanks to the photographer's professional captures. The joy of a convention lies in unreservedly portraying a beloved character, immersed in the crowd and the work's universe. Carrying the white orb prop among the crowd also caught the attention of many fellow fans. Behind every cosplay outfit lies extensive preparation—from selecting wigs, trimming bangs, choosing lenses, to adjusting how garments are worn, pouring great effort into every detail. When it comes to shooting Convention photos, there is always endless to discuss. We faced minor challenges during this shoot: white jackets easily overexpose under harsh light yet look dull in dark backgrounds, so photographer Huangzu spent significant effort fine-tuning exposure to restore the authentic gray-white tones. Shooting in dim light allowed us to use the venue's ambient light to trace contours—that soft halo around hair and clothing edges that adds rich atmosphere. The side-view pose holding the orb in Photo 2 required natural arm lines without obscuring facial contours, taking a while to find the sweet spot. Standing poses in Photos 3 and 4 were comparatively easier, but still required standing tall to maintain the jacket's silhouette. The charm of convention photography lies in its spontaneity: blurred lights and passersby in the background construct an authentic convention ambiance, giving photos more life than studio shoots. Fans often ask why I love cosplaying Mash—because there is a very special warmth in her character, captivating in both her gaze and overall styling. This time, I specifically wore Black stockings with black platform shoes to look even taller and more slender. Walking around a convention all day in elevated footwear is exhausting, but seeing the final photos made it completely worthwhile. My trip to Mengka Anime Convention was truly rewarding—taking great photos and meeting many fellow fans. From costume prep to the show floor to the final edits, the process was intricate yet full of fun. Whether squatting, standing, or cradling the prop orb, every moment aimed to present the character in her best light. The photographer's patient guidance inspired me to pose more freely.
