For this Tenshi Hinanawi cosplay from Touhou Project, the core focus was entirely on costume faithfulness and detail execution. The peach props on the hat were carefully selected to match the original design; securely mounting them onto the wide-brimmed hat took considerable effort, using concealed wire supports and hot glue inside so they wouldn't wobble or fall off while walking around the convention. For her signature bright blue hair, I chose a heat-resistant synthetic wig, gently smoothing it with a flat iron beforehand. The bangs were trimmed to sit cleanly right at brow level without obstructing vision, and double-sided tape was used along the sideburns to keep them steady in the wind.

The skirt is the undisputed centerpiece of the outfit. The main body is made of bright blue satin-finish fabric adorned with multicolored diamond patches in red, orange, yellow, green, and purple; to achieve that subtle three-dimensional look, every patch edge was cleanly bound. On the outer white pinafore apron, the black arabesque vine motifs were custom-printed by a factory, finished with black ruffled wavy trims along the skirt hem and a white lace petticoat layer underneath, adding substantial weight through the rich tiered structure. To complement this fantasy aesthetic, I chose opaque Black stockings (black tights) paired with black platform lace-up combat boots—not only elongating the calf lines, but also easing foot fatigue during a full day on my feet at the convention.

The shoot took place on a street featuring red brick walls interwoven with greenery. The warm earthy tones of the red brick created a striking warm-cool contrast against the bright blue skirt, giving the final photos an intense chromatic punch. The lush greenery background worked wonderfully when blurred with a wide aperture, pulling full focus right back onto the character.

As for props, the weapon with its vibrant orange blade was remarkably eye-catching and crafted with solid tactile weight. In choreographing poses, I explored varied expressions: resting one hand on the hat brim while letting the other hang naturally, accompanied by a slight head tilt, channeled her trademark confidence and playful tsundere attitude. Holding out a peach toward the camera with both hands created an engaging, interactive intimacy that required focused eyes radiating sweet innocence and gentle anticipation. When seated on stone steps with the sword laid horizontally across my lap and hands clasped together, the demeanor transitioned into quiet serenity.

For makeup, I accentuated the depth of the eye look: warm reddish eyeshadow blending deepened at the outer corners, subtly dusted with fine glitter, and paired with vivid pink contact lenses to heighten the anime aesthetic. The base makeup maintained a fair, translucent matte finish, rounded out by a dewy orange-red lip color lined slightly outward for a fuller pout.

Shooting on location at the expo was an adventure in itself. Because the skirt is voluminous and supported by an inner petticoat hoop, moving through dense crowds required constant vigilance—lifting the skirt hem with one hand and holding the prop sword with the other to avoid brushing against passersby. Working with the photographer, we utilized the receding lines of the brick wall to capture full-body compositions from diverse perspectives. I'm genuinely thrilled with the final results, especially in the golden light which captured both the rich fabric sheen and natural skin tones so beautifully. The convention shoot schedule was fast-paced, but bringing a beloved character to life with this level of polish made every single moment delightful.
