[Formidable Cosplay] Azur Lane Black Bunny Girl Windowsill Close-up

This shoot features Formidable from Azur Lane, and putting this entire look together actually took quite a lot of effort. First, looking at the outfit, the combination of bunny elements is rather unique—not only does it have black bunny ears, but it's also adorned with lace trims and a long white bow tie decoration. To recreate her both languid and gorgeous traits, the off-the-shoulder design and black sheer puff sleeves on the upper body are the key focus, paired with a gemstone pendant around the neck to beautifully capture the exquisite feel of an Azur Lane anime cosplay shipgirl.

For the styling, I specifically chose these white tights to go with the black strapped garter on the thigh. The positioning of the garter is actually very precise—it can't be too tight or too loose; it has to sit exactly at two-thirds of the thigh to display that sense of lineament from the character design in front of the camera. The pair of black patent leather Mary Jane heels on my feet was also specially customized by the prop team. The curve of the heels not only elongates the legs but also delivers an amazing texture when paired with the white thigh-highs outfit under the light reflection.

The lighting on the day of the shoot was great. The photographer found an indoor scene with a large glass window surrounded by climbing vines and white flower clusters. This kind of environment is perfect for expressing Formidable's slightly aloof yet playful nature. During the shoot, I sat on the windowsill for several hours, striking various poses. To especially capture the sense of interaction between the bunny ears and the bowtie ribbons, I had to constantly adjust my hand positions so that the white ribbons could drape down naturally instead of hanging stiffly.

However, a highly complete cosplay like this involves many behind-the-scenes details from hair/makeup styling to the actual shoot. For instance, the wig: although it's light blonde long straight hair, the bangs and sideburns must be trimmed to fit the face shape perfectly, with finely layered edges; otherwise, the hair would look too bulky when wearing the bunny ears. As for the makeup, I chose pinkish-red tones for the eyeshadow, adorned with some glitter, and paired it with a relatively sheer lip color to achieve that fair, translucent look from the original anime artwork.

You all might have noticed the second picture in the post, haha, it's indeed a funny meme included as an Easter egg. Sometimes, doing anime cosplay doesn't mean you have to keep a serious face the entire time; you can relax and keep some goofy material outside of the raw shots and official photos. The "barefoot" meme in P2 is a playful tease about this theme and an inside joke between me and my friends, adding a bit of extra fun to this shoot.

Regarding the lighting during the shoot, I specifically asked the photographer to make the light a bit sharper but still maintain a translucent feel. Since it was an indoor windowsill, the combination of natural light and reflectors made the skin texture look very delicate, and the white thigh-highs didn't get overexposed under the bright light, keeping their original texture instead.

Every time I cosplay a character from Azur Lane, especially a highly popular shipgirl like Formidable, the pressure is actually quite immense. Players have a deep understanding of the characters, so even a small wrinkle in the outfit or a slight misalignment in the accessories will be noticed. That's why during our preparation, we don't just put on the clothes; we also have to understand her posture. For example, Formidable sometimes displays a tsundere yet slightly self-confident expression in the original work. To capture this expression, I practiced moving my eyebrows and arching my lips in front of the mirror multiple times.

This shoot didn't involve too many complex backgrounds; a simple windowsill and vines were enough to bring out her presence, because the details on the costume itself were already rich enough. Especially the gloves and cuffs—the layered black tulle elegantized the hand movements beautifully.

Honestly, this kind of look—slightly dark gothic style combined with bunny elements—has always been very popular in the cosplay community. However, to take satisfying photos, it requires not only the model's expressiveness but also the comfort of the costume and the photographer's rhythm. Fortunately, the whole shoot went smoothly, and after the final photos came out, I felt we truly captured the atmosphere we wanted to express.
