[Mulberry cosplay] Arknights Chinese Retro Aesthetics Paired with Black Stockings

This completed photoshoot brings to life Mulberry cosplay from Arknights. To cultivate a visual mood brimming with Chinese retro charm, we staged the shoot inside an indoor studio furnished with wooden standing screens and relief-carved window lattices.

The wardrobe design is captivating: the primary black silhouette accented by red frog fastenings and scarlet piping preserves the dignified grace of traditional attire while incorporating the sharp lines of modern modified design. A blue ID card lanyard dangles across the chest, while ink-wash landscape paintings and traditional seal scripts adorn the skirt panels with lavish detail. To complete the ensemble, I paired it with Black stockings and silver Mary Jane platform heels. The sheer texture of the Black stockings against exposed skin creates a crisp visual contrast—preventing the dark palette from feeling heavy while injecting an urban, playful edge. Meanwhile, the branch of red berries held in hand served as the crowning touch, tonally echoing the red frog buttons while offering dynamic compositional extensions.

Throughout the shoot, I continuously adjusted my posture to embody the character's gentle temperament. The wig was styled with substantial volume, and the curvature of the bangs and side tresses was locked with hairspray multiple times before takes to ensure an organic drape. Cosmetically, bright blue lenses and cool-toned eye makeup anchored the face, perfectly balancing the warm lighting of the environment.

Photographer Niu Niu showed consummate skill in composition and lighting control. We operated with a Fujifilm X-S10 paired with a 27mm f/1.2 prime lens. This roughly 40mm equivalent focal length is remarkably comfortable for indoor portraiture, closely mirroring human visual perspective without noticeable optical distortion. The f/1.2 aperture shone brilliantly in this setting: the indoor studio was filled with faux flora, carved wooden windows, and complex decor, which could easily clutter the frame under deep depth of field. Wide open at f/1.2, the creamy falloff melted away busy background elements, instantly isolating the subject.

In posing, I kept my body relaxed. For a seated pose cross-legged on a plush rug, my hands rested naturally without pressing harsh, unnatural creases into the skirt. In an overhead top-down shot, leaning my torso back accentuated the leg lines while keeping my face aligned with the lens to ensure sharp ocular focus and even illumination—a posture demanding solid core strength. We paused after every few frames to inspect playback for focus drift; under an f/1.2 depth of field, the slightest movement can shift the focal plane, so holding still was crucial to lock focus onto the eyes and chest pendants for tack-sharp sharpness.

During post-production, Niu Niu and I agreed to preserve rich, warm amber lighting without artificially over-brightening the exposure, instead refining contrast so the layers of black fabric and white skirt flounces stood out cleanly. The metallic sheen of the silver heels was preserved, forming a high-tension visual anchor at the bottom of the frame alongside the Black stockings.

Overall, this studio session met all my expectations across costume accuracy, prop staging, and chiaroscuro control. Both the Chinese retro elements and modern stylistic collisions translated exquisitely before the lens. Special thanks to the photographer for their dedication in freezing this scene in time.
