[Mizuki cosplay] Arknights: Casual Daily Life of a Deep-Sea Visitor

Shooting the character Mizuki from Arknights in this blue-and-white interwoven set yielded numerous frames that perfectly resonated with the aquatic theme. The core of this design lies in the clash of textures and colors—the semi-transparent blue PVC cloak and the Holographic umbrella in hand reflected an intensely iridescent, watery shimmer under studio spotlights. The wig featured an icy blue to purple-pink gradient with a great sheen, paired with pinkish colored contacts to give the gaze a more ethereal yet sharp focus. The black choker around the neck with cyan patterns echoed the overall cool-toned palette. Black shorts combined with full black tights created a sleek Black tights outfit look, while pairing with platform sneakers elongated body proportions.

For the photographer, shooting outfits and props with extensive reflective surfaces is indeed a challenge; without care, lighting easily looks cluttered or strips the plastic cloak of its natural translucency. Therefore, in our lighting setup, we deliberately utilized soft side-backlighting to preserve the material's transparency, while laying down a cool ambient tone with blue lights. Under this interwoven warm-and-cool lighting, the blue-purple gradient wig appeared much more natural without looking fluorescent or plasticky.

Throughout the shoot, this costume wasn't actually lightweight. The seemingly airy transparent raincoat, combined with sleeve covers, gloves, choker, and the black inner wear, gets very stuffy in the summer, though luckily the temperature that day was pleasant. The Holographic umbrella frame was a bit heavy; holding it single-handedly or playing with it effortlessly required some arm strength. My favorite element was the pairing with white gloves—not only do white gloves look crisp and clean visually, but they also accentuate the expressive tension of hand gestures. When posing, whether resting one hand on the umbrella handle or gently tugging the cloak collar, the white gloves blended seamlessly into the cool-toned palette.

Although this look heavily emphasizes 'water' elements, under specific lighting angles, it carries an ethereal 2D paper-cut aesthetic. Many beginner cosplayers might be intimidated by large areas of transparent plastic attire, worrying that reflections are too hard to control. In reality, with the right backdrop and layered scene props like seashells and crystals, you can actually harness those reflections to create a glistening effect like ocean waves.

The coordination with the photographer was exceptionally smooth. In designing the poses, rather than rigidly striking stiff combat stances, we adopted more relaxed, slightly languid micro-movements. I feel this state resonates better with the character's casual, composed nature in Arknights; rather than merely chasing external resemblance, capturing the character's internal, effortless ease is far more vital in this Cosplay photography sharing.

Finally, regarding the material choice for the semi-transparent cloak, PVC that balances rigidity with a semi-matte finish is an optimal solution. It is easy to maintain, doesn't leave permanent creases after folding, and exhibits that distinct glossy sheen under spotlights—even subtle wrinkles add a realistic sense of wear.

All in all, while preparing the props and costume was somewhat tedious, the resulting light and shadow in the final photos were genuinely satisfying. The interplay between lighting and textures fully brought out that deep-sea dreamscape atmosphere. I hope these makeup, styling, and set-building experiences provide useful references for friends who enjoy shooting similar styles.
