This Xianzhou-style attire for March 7th (Xianzhou) in Honkai: Star Rail involved a lot of thought during prep. A red-and-brown color scheme was chosen as the primary tone for the outfit, paired with an inner white standing collar and black spiral cloud patterns, giving the ensemble traditional Ancient style cosplay depth without losing the lively energy of an Anime cosplay character. Since the character inherently possesses a lively personality, when pairing the blue-and-white sash with pink flower ornaments, I specially sourced soft fabrics with drape to form a visual layer contrast against the structured outer coat.
For the hairstyle, a yellow-and-pink gradient wig was styled into a classic anime high updo. This hairstyle highlights the neckline, which, combined with light blue contact lenses and Japanese-style base makeup, aligns closely with the character's blend of cool serenity and lively charm. The gray printed design on the thigh section of the white stockings is also a crucial detail. To recreate this pattern, I compared various materials during prep before settling on thin, breathable white pantyhose decorated with prints. Although the production process was slightly complex, the final results in the photos truly enriched the leg details.
As for props, I specifically chose a heavy ancient tome decorated with gold trim for the right hand, paired with a sword featuring cherry blossom motifs by my side. These two props harmonize wonderfully with the costume's overall color palette—one static, one dynamic—enhancing narrative depth in this Roleplay endeavor. The most demanding aspect of this shoot was actually the set design. The background featured wooden lattice screens and calligraphic cloth drapes, while a hanging white paper lantern on the left bore hand-painted floral motifs. Below on the tabletop, celadon porcelain vases, flowers, and fruit plates were arranged to evoke an authentic, lived-in, ancient charm within the Xianzhou realm.
However, I must sincerely apologize to all my followers regarding the choice of black boots for this shoot. I used a platform shoe featuring a black base with gold trimming, purple tassels, and flower ornaments. While the shoe itself has a stylish design, its visual weight felt overly abrupt under this light Ancient style cosplay outfit, making the shoe appear noticeably bulky when sitting to showcase leg lines. During the shoot, my focus was entirely on overall balance and expression control, and I only noticed this issue when reviewing raw proofs. If I shoot this same theme again, I'll find ways to modify the shoes or swap them for a lighter pair closer to the character's original design to achieve higher overall perfection.
Lighting during shooting relied on direct, strong frontal light. Although this approach leaves somewhat hard shadows on the scenery and screens, the benefit is rendering all garment detail textures with crystal clarity—including the texture of white stockings, glove patterns, and wig color saturation. When shooting this Xianzhou series, I mostly chose leaning-seated poses, leveraging body and arm extensions to create a visual effect that feels relaxed yet imbued with subtle strength. Post-processing also involved adjustments to white stocking sheen, skin tone uniformity, and costume hue to ensure cleaner, more vibrant color coordination.
Ultimately, Roleplay is not merely about costume recreation, but grasping the character's demeanor within a specific scene. Within Xianzhou's distinct worldview, character portrayals can be multifaceted. Through this shoot, I realized that fan-created looks blending traditional cultural elements possess immense versatility. The ancient book in hand doesn't have to be for battle; it could represent her learning or observing, while the sword beside her could serve as a protective talisman. Throughout studio shooting, I strove to find expression methods that fit the character's traits while bringing fresh inspiration to myself. Despite the flaw with the shoes this time, the overall ambiance creation and costume color-blocking choices still left me with a strong sense of achievement.
