Today's shooting location was chosen outdoors next to a lighthouse with red-and-white stripes. Accompanied by a large area of blue sky and white clouds, the color contrast is very strong. This time I'm cosplaying March 7th. The costume is mainly based on blue and white tones, accented with black and purple lines, and has an orange ribbon decoration at the waist. To match the character's energetic vibe, I paired it with medium-long pink hair and a black choker, holding a blue-and-black small camera prop in my hand.
This concrete platform is located very high up, and standing on it requires careful balancing. The sunlight was very abundant during the shoot; hitting from a front-lighting angle, both the texture of the costume and the layers of the wig are very clear, and distinct shadows can be seen on the concrete wall. To capture a natural and agile feeling, I adjusted my standing position, trying to put the body's center of gravity on one leg so that the lines would appear more relaxed. For the first picture, I chose a side-standing pose, turning slightly to the side, utilizing the red-and-white architecture behind as a background to form a diagonal extending visual effect; the second picture pulled back and widened the framing, taking more of the blue sky and green plants in the corner into the frame, making the overall atmosphere feel more expansive.
The prop camera is a very crucial point in this matching; holding it in hand effectively solves the awkwardness of not knowing where to put one's hands while also increasing the narrative sense of the frame. In terms of makeup, the emphasis was placed on clear eye makeup and blush, which, paired with the pink hair, kept the overall color tone very unified. Although the temperature on that day was not low, standing outdoors for a long time still felt somewhat tiring, especially having to pay attention to expression management and maintaining posture. To take good-looking photos, we tried many angles on-site, constantly adjusting including the direction of direct sunlight and the movement of the clouds.
The photographer is extremely skilled at capturing dynamics. At the moment of pressing the shutter, a gentle breeze blew past the hair tips, combined with natural light and shadow, resulting in a frame effect with a strong sense of transparency. In fact, before every photoshoot, I spend time familiarizing myself with the character's dressing details, from the wig styling to the shoe matching, trying my best to restore the character's traits. This time, to find a matching scene, I scouted several locations in advance and finally settled on this highly recognizable red-and-white architecture. Although it was my first time shooting here, the texture of the brick wall on-site matched the image I wanted very well. During the shooting process, I also tried many different angles and compositions, hoping to convey the energy and vitality of the pink-haired beautiful girl through the photos. Without complex light and shadow setups, relying purely on natural light and environmental colors, coupled with careful preparation of costumes and props, the final photo results are still very satisfying.
During shooting breaks, I also observed the surrounding environment, looking for natural elements that could be utilized. For example, that cloud in the background happened to be right above the person's upper right, forming a great visual balance. There is also the concrete wall underfoot; the rough texture forms a material contrast with the exquisiteness of the costume, and such details often give photos more texture. Hot weather combined with wearing multi-layered clothing consumed quite a bit of physical energy, but every time I saw the image in the lens, I immediately perked up. To ensure color reproduction, during post-processing I only slightly adjusted the contrast and color saturation, trying to preserve the real light and shadow atmosphere of the scene. I hope that when everyone views these photos, they can also feel this sunshine and freedom. Overall, this color matching is very comfortable; the red-and-white architecture, blue sky and white clouds, plus the blue-and-white costume make the overall frame clean and rich in layers. For cosplay, besides costumes and makeup styling, the choice of scene often plays a finishing touch. Although this shoot was somewhat exhausting, seeing the final photos made me feel all the preparations were worth it.
