[Koyanskaya cosplay] Playing with Poker in the Moody Light and Shadow of a Vintage Study

For this shoot, we directly selected a vintage study as our location. To match the setting, the makeup emphasized stronger eyeliner paired with slim wire-rimmed glasses. For the wardrobe, the vest used a lustrous red-and-black fabric, the white shirt featured plush faux-fur cuffs, and the lower half was paired with white stockings. During shooting, the photographer set up precise, crisp hard lighting that cast across the white stockings and red-black fabrics to bring out incredible texture.

The most demanding part of the shoot was using body language to convey that mysterious yet playfully teasing persona. Gestures like holding a playing card against the cheek or lightly flicking a card with the fingertips required careful deliberation for every tiny movement. The pose seated atop the wooden desk, in particular, required adjusting the leg angles so the white stockings caught a gorgeous sheen in the dim lighting while keeping the silhouette of the red vest sharp and upright. Prop placement was also very deliberate—the tall bookshelf and globe beside me added great depth of field to the composition.

When adding fill light to the face, the reflector position was adjusted repeatedly to prevent distracting glares on the glasses. In front of the camera, everything from a confident smirk while holding the cards to a slight head tilt in thought demanded exact moderation. Wearing this outfit was quite physically demanding, especially with the rabbit ears and wig structure needing constant adjustments to keep from slipping. However, seeing the final photos made every bit of tedious prep work feel completely worth it.

This look features numerous fine details, including the buttons on the vest, the texture of the black gloves, and the soft pink-purple gradient of the wig. The photographer captured these details beautifully while controlling the shadow gradients in post-processing, giving the entire atmosphere a premium, sophisticated feel. Despite doing extensive research beforehand, portraying a character with such multifaceted charm always revealed unexpected surprises in front of the lens. This creative attempt aimed to showcase the design traits of the costume under realistic lighting and shadow.
