Cosplaying Tamamo no Mae this time, I especially wanted to talk about this classic bondage outfit. Manjiong's vintage tailoring for this costume is truly unparalleled—even by today's standards, the cut fits like a glove, effortlessly accentuating silhouette lines without needing to force poses. The ensemble primarily features sleek black material contrasted with greyish-blue ruffled trims, accented with golden satin borders and metallic O-rings and buckles. The black fabric carries a subtle luster, lending exquisite tactile depth under studio lights. However, putting it on requires immense care with the metallic hardware, particularly the chest rings and clasps, which demand patience to fasten, while the ruffled frills must be smoothed out individually to avoid looking messy. Yet, to achieve that gorgeous blend of extravagance and subtle restraint, all the upfront effort was completely worthwhile.
The wig was undoubtedly the centerpiece of this entire styling process. To authentically capture Tamamo no Mae's iconic long pink locks, I searched extensively before choosing this one. The shade is a vibrant, true bright pink, and best of all, subtle micro-glitter is woven into the strands, creating a delicate sparkle under natural daylight or studio strobes that photographs like a dream. Trimming and setting the bangs had to be done meticulously by hand to achieve an airy, voluminous, soft inward curl. The fluffy ears flanking the crown and the mini top hat serve as the crowning touch; the mini hat was anchored to the wig with seamless bobby pins, and during shooting, I was terrified a sudden breeze might dislodge it, so all movements had to be carefully controlled. The cyan ribbons on both sides also soften the visual contrast between the pink and black tones.
For the makeup, Tamamo's eyes are the very soul of the look. I chose a pair of golden-yellow colored contacts; to make the pupils look larger and more spirited, the eye makeup utilized bold black eyeliner with a dramatic, elongated upward flick at the outer corners. The lower lashes were applied densely, complemented by a soft reddish flush beneath the eyes to channel a delicate, innocently intoxicating allure. The foundation was kept porcelain-pale for a matte, doll-like porcelain finish, paired with a matte peach lip tint to elevate that authentic anime aesthetic.
During shooting, coordinating eye contact with bodily poise was vital to embodying the character's temperament. For example, as seen in photo 2, lowering the head slightly while directing an unblinking gaze into the lens and lightly clutching the garment edge accentuates the shoulders and collarbone lines while infusing a touch of subtle sensuality. The off-the-shoulder neckline perfectly highlights neck and shoulder proportions. This Tamamo no Mae bondage suit possesses remarkable visual tension—pink hair paired with cyan accents amidst the black-and-gold core palette makes every frame photogenic. Even though the fabric has limited elasticity and demands measured movements, the final result exceeded all my expectations.
