Slipping into the gym uniform and grabbing a volleyball, this set of Shiroko Sunaookami cosplay photos finally turned out smoothly. This photo set was intentionally shot in a familiar indoor setting, mainly aiming to recreate a daily, athletic image of Shiroko rather than a highly staged studio look.
The core of this cosplay look lies in that white sports T-shirt trimmed with cyan around the collar. This basic gym uniform style actually places high demands on showcasing the neck and shoulder lines, so I specifically adjusted the wig's thickness and layering to prevent hair from bunching up around the collar and looking bulky. The light grey wig was paired with neatly trimmed bangs, along with light blue cross hair clips on both sides, visually matching the clean and sleek setting from the work. The greyish-white animal ears on top turned out great in texture; the fluffy material had a subtle edge-translucency under natural light, though securing them required an invisible hairnet and small clips like those from Bilibili to fix, or else tilting down would easily shift the center of gravity forward.
The biggest prop challenge this time was actually that volleyball. I originally thought holding it for a pose would be effortless, but during actual shooting, holding a medium-sized volleyball with one hand while keeping the arm naturally extended really tested fundamental posture control. Fortunately, we captured several split-second shots showing a sense of strength. For the halo prop, I chose a light blue semi-transparent ring mounted above my head via a support frame; as long as there was no violent shaking, both high and low camera angles presented a floating visual effect. For indoor shooting, I intentionally preserved side lighting from the window to give facial contours light-and-shadow definition while avoiding harsh overhead lighting. This natural side lighting made the blue contact lenses appear much more translucent, giving my gaze a vivid sparkle.
The overall makeup approach leaned toward a cool yet vibrant style, with a very clean base using only a thin layer of concealer. To emphasize the eyes, subtle highlights were applied to the inner corners along with a glossy lip tint. Unlike the heavy stage makeup used for comic conventions, this style focused more on daily life, requiring a good skin condition since base adherence is immediately visible under relatively bright side lighting.
After finishing this set, I felt Shiroko's design indeed carries a quiet yet subtly contrasting charm. She usually speaks little, but putting on a gym uniform makes her appear full of action. To closely match the character's athletic vibe, I intentionally avoided overly sweet smiles in expressions, keeping a calm, slightly cool micro-expression to create an authentic feel of a quick snapshot right after morning practice.
I barely touched major post-processing on these outfit photos, mainly balancing skin tone and wig shine slightly. I was already quite satisfied with the original raw photos; dropping the color temperature slightly would make it feel like an autumn afternoon, but I ultimately chose brighter, cool-white lighting to better highlight the cyan elements and the overall clean, crisp atmosphere. Organizing these photos made me want to revisit Shiroko's lore again—this style blending daily life with character traits is truly fitting for real-world setting documentation.
Of course, minor technical issues inevitably arose during shooting; for instance, if the halo overhead accidentally tilted, it looked jarring in the frame, so the prop position had to be re-adjusted with every angle change. Furthermore, cluttered backgrounds with indoor shelves and storage boxes could steal visual focus if handled poorly, so I consciously used a wide aperture and stayed close to the subject to blur the background appropriately, keeping focus on the outfit and face.
Ultimately, I selected these few relatively natural photos without awkward expressions or stiff postures. For cosplayers who love original flavor, capturing this simplified 2D daily life feel is actually harder than managing ornate, complex costumes. Combing the hair light and fluffy while exposing the cyan collar trim represented the ideal look for this character in my mind. Next time I get a chance, I'd love to capture a slightly relaxed post-workout state with subtle sweat, unlocking another side of her character. That's about all for this share—being able to shoot a beloved character in her iconic gymnastics uniform cosplay was a joyful experience in itself.
