Preparing this Arturia set, from initial conception to final images, took nearly an entire month. The primary objective was to capture the character's enigmatic, elegant, and subtly detached aura. To achieve this, extensive research went into every element, from wardrobe and props to scene construction.
First, let's talk about the outfit's composition. The loose white long-sleeved blouse was crafted from a structured, crisp fabric to hold the silhouette of the shoulders and sleeves, harmonizing with the gold high-collar embellishments and black necktie for enhanced three-dimensional form. The blue ribbon cascading from the waist served as a striking focal point, breaking the uniformity of the black, white, and gold palette. The lower garment was the centerpiece: a lustrous black maxi gown featuring extensive gathers and pleats. The fabric carried an inherent sheen, draping across leg lines when seated to create rich visual layers. To anchor the look's commanding aura, off-white pointed high heels were chosen, elegantly elongating visual proportions during crossed-leg poses.
The head styling also required meticulous attention. The long straight black wig was textured with precise layering, while thick blunt bangs framed the face to accentuate the character's icy composure. The branch-like horn piece on the left was sculpted and tinted by hand using lightweight clay and resin; its curves were modeled after organic plant contours, accented with white feathers and floral elements to balance visual weight. Makeup took the most time on the eyes, blending deep reddish-brown tones to add depth to the sockets and outer corners, which, combined with a fair complexion and dark red lipstick, brought out sharp facial dimension.
The studio setup presented several challenges on shoot day. Pure black background drapes and greyish-white stone pillars on either side were erected to establish an otherworldly Black and white gothic style atmosphere. The tufted white diamond-stitched throne was specially sourced; its rhinestones and engraved carvings elevated textural richness while providing solid support for seated postures. Lighting was kept predominantly cool, with only a small suspended picture frame casting subtle warm tones—the interplay of warm and cool prevented stagnation, making the subject stand out.
Maintaining poise while seated on the throne was surprisingly demanding. To exude languid pride, core back muscles had to remain engaged, and the instep stayed taut during crossed-leg poses to preserve smooth calf lines. The white flowers and ruined plaster props scattered at my feet were arranged on the fly, eliminating excess clutter to keep the framing clean.
Seeing the finished set, the character's aura matched our vision completely. The joy of doing cosplay lies in briefly touching another character's soul through the alchemy of costume, makeup, and setting. Though laborious, the tension in the final frames made every bit of effort worthwhile.
