Deciding to take on this Genshin Impact Shenhe cosplay was primarily sparked by my fascination with the intricate costume details and the character's unique temperament. What I'm sharing today are the results of my mirror selfies. The tailoring of this entire outfit is very demanding on body figure; to properly recreate the leg lines of the Leggings, I spent considerable time working on posture and fitness control prior to the shoot. The semi-sheer tulle patchwork on the upper body and the black form-fitting corset presented quite a challenge, especially those red accents and jacquard patterns, which heavily tested the snugness of the tailored fit. Of course, the most distinctive feature remains the headpiece adorned with the Red string and red tassels; just like the line often quoted, 'You are the Red string that truly binds me,' that sentiment carries profound emotional resonance. Many players affectionately refer to this character as 'Auntie' (Xiaoyi); that aloof demeanor layered with subtle gap moe was something I truly wanted to convey through the lens.
The weapon used this time is a polearm; the prop was crafted with considerable heft, and holding it aloft while keeping proper balance left my shoulders genuinely sore. The silver wig was another major hurdle, requiring extensive detangling, smoothing, and styling hold to ensure it wouldn't look frizzy or unkempt in the mirror. Under indoor lighting, this ensemble presented a wonderful contrast between cyan-blue and black tones. Because of the subtle jacquard weave and reflective sheen, the legs gained fantastic visual extension, and paired with pointed-toe strappy heels, the overall proportions were elongated significantly. The prop's tassels and the sheer fabric draped over the skirt created airy, billowing layers whenever walking or turning around.
To fully display the full-body look and the actual fit of the garment, I deliberately chose a clean white cabinet and wooden flooring as the backdrop, striving to reflect the complex details of this outfit through minimal composition. Throughout the shoot, I continuously adjusted my stance and angles—raising my phone high with one hand to catch optimal lighting while coordinating the other hand and my body posture to pose—which was physically exhausting. Fortunately, the final shots captured the authentic texture and design essence of the costume, with the Red string accents making the entire look even more dynamic. Given the chance next time, I hope to shoot this look in a more expansive natural setting, harmonizing with genuine tree shadows or snowfall for an even more breathtaking visual experience.
