A great deal of thought went into preparing and refining the look for this Shenhe shoot. Red ropes, black gauze, a white dress, and a polearm—these elements layered together piece together the image of the crane adeptus, both aloof and bound by deep obsessions. "Only a mind free of distractions reaches transcendence" sounds effortless to say, but embodying it before the lens is no easy feat.

Let's start with the wardrobe. The design of this white halter-neck dress is remarkably intricate; the complex blue-and-red corset waist piece and tassel beads at the waist serve as the focal anchor of the entire styling. To capture the flowing dynamism of the high side slit, plenty of anti-exposure precautions were taken beforehand—after all, the wind was quite fierce on the day of the shoot, and brandishing a polearm through broad sweeps demanded thorough wardrobe security. The blue sleeves on the arms and shoulders, paired with the semi-transparent grayish-black tulle trailing sleeves cascading behind, swept into the air as I moved and turned, instantly bringing forth that celestial, otherworldly grace. The wig was layered with two pieces, and the feather hairpiece on the crown was fixed bit by bit using hot glue, striving to present a natural yet proudly detached messiness before the camera.

The prop team delivered impeccably as well. The polearm featured exceptional paint texture, with its blue-and-gold color scheme gleaming brilliantly in the sun. Though holding it carried noticeable heft—leaving my arms aching after several swings—it was all trivial as long as the poses looked striking. To synchronize with the floating talisman visual effects, I mentally rehearsed continuous spellcasting movements during takes: hands steady, gaze piercingly cold. The black talisman paper props inscribed with glowing green glyphs were suspended off-camera using fishing line or composited in post-production, but during shooting, maintaining physical fluidity required imagining them floating beside me so my gaze and posture wouldn't look hollow.

The shooting location was set within the pavilion and veranda of a classical garden. The daylight was splendid that day, filtering through tree leaves and architectural eaves to cast dappled patterns of light and shade. White fabric tends to blow out under harsh sunlight, so the photographer was constantly adjusting angles and flag panels. A sunlit classical garden naturally forms a contrast with Shenhe's lore of snow-swept solitary peaks. To bridge this gap, our choreography emphasized cold detachment and pride. Standing in the pavilion framed by crimson pillars and gray tiles, polearm in hand with eyes slightly lifted, that ethereal aloofness untouched by the mortal realm had to be conveyed through the gaze.

Many assume capturing a cool, aloof demeanor is simple—just keeping a blank face. In reality, a flat expression easily appears dull. Shenhe's character possesses not only aloofness but also mortal attachments tied down by the red ropes. Therefore, I intentionally infused subtle emotion into my eyes during shooting: when looking into the lens, the gaze wasn't empty, but tinged with a mix of bewilderment and resolve toward the mortal realm. The red ropes around the waist held a commanding visual weight—serving as both a restraint and a bond. When posing for talisman spellcasting frames, I kept my body engaged with underlying tension while appearing outwardly relaxed, channeling that transcendent realm devoid of stray thoughts.

Framing the leg lines through the high slit aimed to heighten visual tension within the composition. In portraying such statuesque mature female characters, cosplayers can harness garment tailoring and natural lighting to elevate overall texture rather than merely chasing superficial visual stimulation. We discussed the color grading for a long time, ultimately opting to preserve the clean, translucent texture of the raw frames without overly complicated grading. The contrast between highlights and shadows pushed the juxtaposition between pure white and deep black to the extreme. I hope sharing this set conveys this serene and aloof essence to everyone.
