Preparing for this Touhou Project Sakuya Izayoi cosplay took over a month from start to finish. From the moment I received the costume, I was contemplating how to bring out her unique aura.

The outfit is incredibly rich in detail: the white high-neck shirt features multi-layered lace ruffles, and the dark blue pinafore dress is designed with subtle jacquard patterns and a cinched waist. In particular, the black leather belt with a metal buckle serves as the focal point of the entire ensemble. The dark green ribbon bow and the gem embellishments at the collar and cuffs all required meticulous positioning. To ensure the texture felt premium rather than cheap, custom embroidery was added to the white apron. For footwear, I chose glossy black leather shoes paired with White stockings featuring lace trims, striving to make every element complete the character's silhouette.

Regarding props, the pocket watch and scissors were of paramount importance. The chain of the pocket watch needed to drape naturally, while the scissors had to be held in a way that conveyed a calm yet subtle sense of danger. The studio set was dressed with an abundance of gears, suspended chains, and blue roses, which, set against a black-and-white checkered floor, created a distinct Dark fairy tale atmosphere. This set placed high demands on the lighting; cool-toned lights cast onto the figure accentuated the fine texture of the silver-white wig beautifully.

For makeup, I opted for light-colored contact lenses and kept the eye makeup intentionally cool and understated, discarding overly heavy colors in favor of a translucent, doll-like finish. To stay true to the character's persona, I repeatedly practiced poses holding the pocket watch with an aloof, distant gaze. The photographer captured these moments brilliantly, capturing that subtle demeanor of someone who appears detached yet holds ultimate dominion over time.

The entire shoot was quite demanding—due to the multiple layers of the costume and the length of the wig, adjustments were constantly needed between poses. Yet seeing the final results made every effort worthwhile. Shooting is never just about posing; it is about stepping into the character's reality. I have always believed that bringing a character to life goes beyond wearing the same clothes—it requires conveying their story through gaze and subtle body language.

The set design and lighting synchronized wonderfully this time, particularly the combination of blue roses and brass gears, which infused the series with a touch of fantasy. As I adjusted my posture on set, I visualized myself truly standing within the Scarlet Devil Mansion, gazing across the endless river of time. From angling the skirt folds to perfecting the tilt of the scissors and pocket watch, every detail was pursued with utmost precision.

Sharing these photos now in the hope of fully showcasing the dedication poured into this project. I look forward to taking on even more challenging cosplays in the future.
