The post-processing for this Seaside Sailor suit photoshoot is finally complete. The shoot primarily pursued a clean, translucent visual aesthetic, with the overall color palette leaning toward low-saturation blue and white, harmonizing smoothly with the seawater and buoys in the background. First, let's talk about the preparation work beforehand. The wig was blue this time; to keep its shape under the sea breeze, I used plenty of styling hairspray, trying my best to make the hair look natural without getting messy easily. For makeup, I deliberately chose a breathable foundation base, using cool blue-gray tones for eyeshadow to echo the cool color palette of the character and outfit, paired with a natural nude-pink lipstick to keep from overshadowing the overall refreshing vibe. The outfit was a semi-sheer Sailor suit top paired with appropriate innerwear to avoid wardrobe malfunctions; the bright yellow tie served as the visual centerpiece, complemented by a blue-and-white striped miniskirt and White stockings pantyhose.
White stockings are the soul of this outfit, but in practical shooting, wearing White stockings at the Seaside posed quite a challenge because sand easily clings to them. Therefore, I took off my shoes and waited until just before shooting to step into the water, or rinsed my hands with seawater before posing, avoiding dry sand as much as possible. The water temperature was actually quite chilly at the time; to find the most suitable framing and poses, I had to sit in the shallow water, letting the ocean waves lap against my legs and clothes. Finding a good angle required adjusting my posture over and over again. Once the White stockings got wet and clung to my legs, they created a unique texture and sheer translucency, which was one of the major highlights of this set.
The photographer used a lower angle and a wide aperture, perfectly blurring the red-and-white buoys in the background to emphasize the subject and give the frame great depth of field. The light by the Seaside was diffused without harsh shadow transitions, so the final photos rendered fair skin with an exceptionally soft texture and no harsh shadows. In post-processing, I deliberately dialed down the contrast, slightly lifted the shadows, and kept the brightness within a high-key range so both the skin and water surface looked clear and luminous, preserving the delicate ripples on the water to convey a pristine, sunlit shore vibe. Color grading was also kept unified without overly complex special effects, simply letting the blue and yellow form a refreshing contrast while retaining the natural Seaside atmosphere. Every shoot in different settings and outfits represents a brand-new attempt in hair/makeup and camera presence, serving as quite a significant evolution from composition to color grading. The entire process was very challenging; although the seawater was cold, seeing this translucent atmosphere in the final photos made everything worthwhile. Combining my makeup and retouching experience, this photo set stands as a solid portrait photography work. Through meticulous preparation, on-set detail control, and refined retouching, shooting this Sailor suit theme with crystal-clear tones was truly a delightful experience.
