Kurumi Tokisaki's classic school Uniform look was finally brought to life completely in this white studio shoot. The entire shooting process was tightly paced, with every step executed precisely from pre-production to execution on set. Modeling as the character, the outfit's details were actually more intricate than expected: a black blazer accented with white edge piping, layered over a white collared shirt and red bow tie, paired with a dark blue pleated skirt on the bottom. To adapt to the intense lighting of the studio, we ran multiple tests on fabric and color contrasts before finalizing this ensemble, ensuring the visual layers held up crisply against a solid white background.
For the wig, I selected a style with blunt bangs and long sidelocks, tied into low Twintails with bright yellow hair scrunchies. The makeup highlighted reddish-pink contact lenses paired with clean negative space across the face, aiming to capture that quiet yet enigmatic aura. When it comes to Anime-style photography, one truly appreciates how rigorous everyone has become with detail control. The Black stockings pantyhose and black glossy platform loafers were among the key focal points of this styling. Against the pure white backdrop, the contrast between the dark Uniform and the texture of the Black stockings was remarkably sharp, which posed a real challenge for lighting. We adjusted light positions repeatedly on set to ensure the matte texture of the stockings and the shadows of the pleated skirt wouldn't blend together.
The on-set props were minimal—just standard school desks and chairs, plus a white cylindrical pedestal. To keep the compositions engaging, we invested a lot of effort into pose design. When perching on the edge of the desk or sitting in a chair, extending leg lines helped break up rigidity in the frame. Poses like crossing legs with both hands braced on the desktop, or sitting sideways in the chair reaching down to adjust a shoe heel, look effortless but demand solid balance and body coordination. To capture the most natural flow, holding a single pose for several minutes left my muscles quite sore.
Tugging on the Twintails is an iconic pose; tracing a hand smoothly from root to tip alongside a focused gaze directs the viewer's eye beautifully. The shot lifting the skirt with both hands aimed to convey dynamic movement in the pleats, giving the still image a sense of breath compared to static standing. The shot looking down from the circular pedestal, captured from a subtle low angle, elongated overall body proportions and serves wonderfully as posing and illustration reference.
While white studio lighting is even, it can easily wash out garment textures. During the shoot, I kept my motions clean and decisive to avoid contorting or creasing the clothes. Overall, this studio session explored a variety of seated, leaning, standing, and kneeling postures within a confined space, unlocking the multifaceted charm of this Uniform styling as much as possible. Communication with the photographer was seamless, with most shots nailed in a single take for high efficiency. I hope this photo set brings some inspiration to fellow enthusiasts of Anime-style photography, and I look forward to experimenting with more styles in different settings next time.
