[Kurumi Tokisaki cosplay] Date A Live: The Gothic Red-and-Black Space-Time Ruler

This time, I'm sharing the official photo set of Kurumi Tokisaki cosplay from Date A Live. To faithfully recreate the character's classic image, a lot of preparation went into the costume and props beforehand. The red-and-black Gothic Lolita dress features many tiers of lace and ruffles; while putting it on and taking it off was quite tedious, the resulting on-camera look was wonderfully dimensional. The mesh hair ornament and twintail hairstyle truly tested our patience; because the hair was quite long, when twirling or posing, we had to be careful that the tips didn't whip against my face or get tangled in the cello.

The shoot location was set in a vintage-style interior where black-and-white checkered floors, deep crimson curtains, a wooden piano, and a grandfather clock instantly established a rich atmosphere. In the first photo, holding the mechanical clock dial prop was genuinely heavy, placing significant strain on the wrist. Moreover, because the clock was made of wood, I had to be extra cautious not to nick or damage it during shooting, which placed high demands on shoulder muscle control. The second photo captured a pose playing the cello; to pursue authentic posture, my body leaned forward at a pronounced angle, and the leg lines looked remarkably slender complemented by black boots and stockings, though it certainly tested my lower back strength. The third is a standing pose, lifting the skirt hem with one hand resting against the cello, which fully showcased the Black stockings and leg lines while exuding an even more commanding aura.

Communication with the photographer flowed smoothly throughout, and the lighting tech sculpted illumination that gorgeously accentuated facial contours and garment textures, making the red contact lenses in my pupils shine with vivid intensity under the lights. Standing all day in platform boots was exhausting and the long twintails carried noticeable weight, but seeing the final photos made it feel completely worthwhile. In post-processing, we avoided exaggerated skin-smoothing to preserve visual texture, leaning into rich, intense vintage tones that fit the character lore wonderfully. Capturing this full set took about half a day, mainly because there were numerous props requiring frequent repositioning of camera angles and postures. The cello and clock, as Kurumi's signature elements, held significant weight in the shoot; utilizing these props greatly enriched the framing and kept poses from feeling monotonous in this Anime cosplay. This studio shoot was a fantastic experience and a rewarding little challenge in interpreting this character.
