[Jeanne d'Arc cosplay] Azur Lane: Saint Jeanne d'Arc's White Veil Chinese-Style Interpretation

This Jeanne d'Arc photoshoot was in preparation for quite some time; from selecting the lace fabrics to staging the set, every single step involved close communication with the photographer. Jeanne d'Arc's design in Azur Lane naturally carries a sacred, steadfast poise, so I deliberately chose an all-white lace gown to echo this divine temperament. To enhance textural depth, the plush fur trims splicing into lace across the shoulders and cuffs, paired with over-the-knee White stockings in delicate lace patterns, were designed to inject rich dimension and subtle sensuality into an otherwise dignified ensemble.

Staging the studio scene on the day took considerable effort. The carved wooden lattice screen in the background, trailing white blossom branches overhead, and the luminous square wooden lantern in the foreground were all carefully arranged to balance the scene's atmospheric weight. Fog rolled out from the haze machine, catching side-rim lighting; while rather choking to endure during takes, the resulting ethereal Tyndall light rays were breathtaking. The white crane prop to the side and the wooden Go board up front served as wonderful anchors: the contrasting black and white stones alongside the warm timber of the screen anchored the composition, preventing an all-white palette from feeling too airy and lending it classical gravity.

Wig styling and cosmetics also went through multiple iterations. The light-blonde short bob needed to maintain its fine texture under studio strobes while adhering faithfully to her character presence. For the eyes, light-colored contact lenses were chosen, with crimson lips and matching scarlet nail enamel serving as rare vibrant accents. The overall makeup was kept clean and luminous yet visually arresting rather than heavy-handed.

While the poses in the photographs appear effortless, holding that semi-reclined, leaning posture required constant core engagement. Resting one hand upon the wooden lantern and placing the other softly across my chest, I crossed my legs to showcase the detailed weave of the White stockings and clean leg lines. The photographer continuously adjusted the camera height, using the warm lantern glow as an under-light to illuminate my face and the white fabric, evoking a classical yet fantasy-tinged aura. To prevent stiffness, I periodically shifted my center of gravity and fanned out the gown's train to ensure relaxed, graceful lines. Maintaining the character's serene, aloof grace while flattering natural female curves in modern portraiture proved quite a demanding test of physical control.

The materials of this costume demanded extreme care during the shoot; delicate lace and sheer tulle snag easily, requiring slow, gentle movements when walking or sitting. The silk stockings naturally tended to slip over time and needed frequent readjustments to ensure clean, continuous leg contours. The Go board guided the viewer's gaze, and though only framed in part, it suggested a quiet, contemplative match that, paired with rising wisps of smoke, brought the narrative to life. Bringing this fusion of Chinese aesthetic and Western fantasy to fruition in a Nanjing studio was an invaluable creative milestone.

For lighting and composition, we stripped away overly complex chromatic schemes, reigning in the palette strictly to blue, white, and warm gold. This restrained color harmony kept the busy props from looking cluttered, allowing viewers to immediately lock onto facial expressions and body language. Placing the white crane on the left foreground added striking depth of field, opening up the entire setting into an expansive, poetic tableau.
