Last year, for this Wuthering Waves The Shorekeeper photoshoot, I personally designed and built the entire blue-and-white themed set from scratch. From sourcing pale blue hydrangeas, white European birdcages, and garden benches to hanging flowing satin drapes, preliminary Scene Setup required tremendous dedication. My goal was to recreate that ethereal, tranquil, and dreamlike atmosphere within the studio, and the final results brought immense personal satisfaction.
The wardrobe is loaded with intricate accents: blue-and-white fabric paneling, polished silver metal chains cinching the waist, and delicate sheer tulle tiers across the skirt, all demanding careful textural management before the camera. To prevent harsh specular glare, the photographer and I adjusted lighting positions iteratively. In cosmetics, a powder-blue wig was paired with matching contact lenses and deepened smoky eye makeup to accentuate the character's aloof, mysterious aura. Because the garment incorporates numerous cut-outs and an open back, I explored diverse posing angles to showcase the tailoring and bodily contours.
The first frame features a seated pose on the bench, using foreground blue blossoms and draping silk folds to establish a natural frame composition, hands gently lifted and gaze locking directly with the lens to project static tension. In the second frame, leaning slightly forward with one hand caressing the face and the other reaching outward highlighted the silver bands along the arms and the fluid motion of the skirt hem, while drawing eye-catching emphasis to the legs. For the third frame, I selected an overhead top-down perspective, lying flat across a reflective board carpeted in petals with legs elevated. This angle allowed the layered gathers of the skirt to fan out completely, while utilizing ground reflections to evoke the illusion of floating upon water or dreaming within an ethereal realm.
While the entire shoot was exhausting, seeing every minute detail coalesce into the final cuts made every ounce of sweat worthwhile. Handcrafted scene-building paired with cosplay is physically grueling, yet transforming the vision living in one's imagination into reality delivers an irreplaceable sense of fulfillment. Whenever preparing large-scale scene setups like this, I do extensive pre-production groundwork—from lighting color temperatures to floral color palettes—ensuring every element within the frame resonates in harmonious unity.
