[Vertin cosplay] Convention Shots Holding a Checkerboard Suitcase Under Cool Lighting

From the moment we finalized the shoot plan, my attention was on coat fabric selection and accessory coordination. The dark coat uses a heavy woolen fabric, where white faux fur along the collar and cuffs produces soft rim lighting under studio lights, paired with a sapphire blue knitted scarf to break up large areas of dark color. The gemstone brooch on the chest and double-breasted silver buttons form clean specular highlights under indoor overhead lighting. Blue ribbons on the hat and scarf echo each other in hue, while black gloves and a hard-shell checkerboard suitcase anchor the vintage British framework.

For the wig, I selected a slightly wavy silver-gray style with layered bangs to easily expose or cover eyes during shooting. For makeup, I avoided overly heavy colors, relying mainly on extended eyeliner to elongate eye shapes while lowering brow angles for a calm demeanor; subtle freckles on the cheeks neutralized facial distance to make expressions feel more natural. Shot inside a convention hall with alternating cool and warm lighting, overhead spotlights gave the fur collar and Silver hair styling fantastic light reflectance, allowing the main subject to instantly pop against the dim, cool-toned backdrop.

Throughout shooting, photographer WiFi's mastery of angles and light was spot on. We selected several composition modes for the final set, such as a downcast close-up holding the hat brim and full-view standing poses carrying the case. Presenting a demeanor entirely free of camera-pleasing gestures was intended to convey the character's calm self-possession during major events. Although the suitcase in hand was a prop, its genuine weight added considerable realism during movement, prompting me to instinctively straighten my spine to better suit the dignified aura of a tailored coat.

When organizing these photos, I compared coat fabric textures and scarf color saturation under varying lighting, ultimately picking shots with balanced cool-and-warm tones. Since convention halls are crowded, taking clean solo background shots tested live direction; in these shots, darkening the backdrop made the lit character the natural visual focus. Maintaining a standing pose preserved the coat hem's natural drape and black vest texture, faithful to original character settings. The overall look felt more wearable than expected, with cool-toned combinations proving visually enduring in front of the camera.

The collar area of the coat was specifically widened so that low-angle shots or head turns would create a natural transition between the white fur collar and neck without looking bulky. Although I tested other prop setups previously, this hard-shell checkerboard suitcase proved best at anchoring the ensemble's aura. Shooting with a moderate aperture softly blurred structural hall lines in the background, preserving environmental ambience without cluttering the image.

Creating this Vertin cosplay from Reverse: 1999 felt more like a process of connecting deeply with the character's inner world. Her resilience and rationality revealed through lore details evoke a sense of immersion when wearing this outfit. Approaching character states from the outside in represents the true meaning of cosplay. These photos preserved most of the authentic live atmosphere without excessive post-processing skin smoothing, as I believe realistic textures best showcase live spatial control and character poise.
