This shoot actually originated from a spontaneous idea one afternoon. The sky was overcast right after a passing rain shower, with puddles still lingering on the ground. Seeing the lush greenery flanking the stone stairs and the glistening, wet pavement instantly evoked a mood of distant thunder beneath cloudy skies. Although this wasn't cosplaying a specific anime character, as an original photoshoot themed around a JK uniform, I wanted to capture and document this youthful freshness and sense of story.
Let's talk about the outfit styling everyone cares about most. For this session, I chose a classic, basic-style Sailor suit: a white short-sleeved blouse with a navy blue sailor collar and a matching necktie, paired with a navy pleated miniskirt. To introduce visual layering, I wore over-the-knee white socks—popularly referred to as White stockings—with black platform Mary Jane shoes. The accessories added delicate touches: white lace cuffs on the wrists and a pink beaded bracelet. The standout piece was definitely the black leather shoulder bag, adorned on the strap with a red-and-white polka dot bow. This vibrant pop of color broke up the cooler navy-white-black palette beautifully, serving as a memorable focal point for the set.
The shooting location was an outdoor staircase and footbridge area surrounded by thick trees and shrubs. The post-rain air was crisp, and the leaves looked exceptionally emerald after being washed clean. Since the ground was slick, we moved around with great caution. The most essential prop used was a Transparent umbrella. Its advantage lies in offering shelter from drizzle without creating dark, heavy visual obstructions within the frame. When gently rotated, raindrops and refracted light across the umbrella canopy lent the composition a lovely translucence. Holding my phone or carrying the umbrella while standing on the steps, the photographer explored various camera angles.
In terms of posing, the photographer offered wonderful guidance. For example, when turning to glance back on the stairs, keeping the body lines relaxed and elongated was essential; leaning against the metal railing, lightly raising one leg helped visually lengthen proportions while highlighting the texture of the White stockings. There were also shots crouching on the steps with the Transparent umbrella set casually aside—paired with a pensive expression, the scene's emotional resonance instantly surfaced. The lighting that day was wonderfully soft—that classic, diffused overcast daylight ideal for a clean, natural post-rain photo shoot, delivering gorgeous skin textures without needing artificial fill light.
Regarding gear and post-processing, the Fujifilm X-H1 was used throughout the session. Fujifilm's color science is truly remarkable, particularly its rendition of greens and skin tones. Most of these photos are straight-out-of-camera JPEGs, where the film simulation naturally infused the images with a warm, authentic Japanese slice-of-life texture. The rich green background contrasted pleasantly with the white-and-navy tones of the outfit. In post-processing, I simply adjusted the exposure and contrast slightly, preserving the moist, atmospheric freshness of the post-rain scene.
I was both the model and the person behind the lens and post-processing, making the whole process feel like a creative dialogue with myself. From early outfit planning and location scouting to emotional tuning and angle testing during the shoot, it was hard work but seeing the final photos made it completely worthwhile. A JK uniform is more than just clothing; it embodies youth, vitality, and a longing for beautiful moments. I thoroughly enjoyed walking through the rain-washed greenery in a Sailor suit, and I hope this photo set conveys that tranquility to you all.
