[Mizuki cosplay] Summer Angel and Transparent Swim Ring: A Cool Moment

When planning this Mizuki cosplay look, I considered how to combine water elements, a refreshing vibe, and an angel halo. I am quite satisfied with the final photos shot today, so I wanted to share some thoughts and detailed notes from the process.

Let's talk about the styling first. Mizuki's character setting leans toward a clean and pure style, so I deliberately chose lightweight and breathable materials for the costume. For example, the off-the-shoulder design on the top splices pink, navy blue, and white ruffles with pink stripes, providing rich layering without feeling heavy. The outer transparent bubble sleeve covers are the finishing touch—they add an ethereal feel while letting skin tones and light play through in a white studio background, creating great texture. The white wings on the back use lightweight materials; despite their large size, they didn't feel too heavy to adjust poses during the studio shoot.

The yellow angel halo overhead is the most iconic element of this look. To give the angel halo a floating feel, we used extremely fine line to fix it during shooting. The photographer's lighting was also very precise, and with a bit of post-processing, the glow of the halo blended very naturally with the white background. As for headwear, red, yellow, and blue bow hair clips paired with purple flower decorations added lively color layers to the long White hair. Combined with pale violet-pink eyeshadow and contact lenses, the gaze appears even clearer. The colorful bead necklace on the neck is a cute detail echoing the colorful transparent swim ring texture.

As for location choice, the light greyish-white solid background studio was ultimately selected for a minimalist look that doesn't steal the spotlight. After all, the visual elements in this look are already rich enough, and a seamless pure white backdrop perfectly highlights the character's "angelic" and "ethereal" traits. For props, we used a blue-and-white gradient transparent swim ring, a key prop for the summer theme. During the shoot, I paid special attention to the reflective texture of the swim ring; it expresses the crystal clarity of bubbles without glaring like real water surfaces. The translucent material looks especially dreamy under soft light.

Looking at pose design, I tried two main postures during the shoot. In the first photo, a half-kneeling pose holding the swim ring with one hand completely showcases the full outfit, wing height, and halo position. The other two photos capture a lazy posture resting my chin on hands while lying on the swim ring, just like "looking at you sweetly" as described. This eye contact is essential because it's not just about displaying costumes, but letting viewers feel the character's personality.

As everyone can see in this set, I went barefoot throughout without stockings. Bare feet combined with the swim ring emphasize a relaxed, defenseless comfort at the summer waterside. Although there are no stockings, bare legs under high-key lighting give the overall skin tone a transparent, pale brightness. Combined with White hair and white feathers, it balances the overall image brightness and keeps it very refreshing for this cosplay session.

During shooting, large softboxes were used for lighting to minimize harsh facial shadows—this type of "high-key photography" is perfect for cute anime-style characters. In post-production, I did minimal heavy editing, mainly unifying white balance to preserve the skin's genuine translucency and the plastic sheen of the swim ring. For friends who like this style and want soft textures during studio shoots, I recommend using reflected light rather than direct key lighting to prevent detail loss from overexposure.

This Mizuki cosplay shoot served as a concrete expression of the summer angel image in my mind. Although the props weren't overly complex, harmonizing multi-layered attire, hair accessories, and styling elements in front of the lens while conveying a relaxed and cute atmosphere required a lot of communication with the photographer.
