A lot of preparation went into this blue-and-white themed look. The ice crystal headpiece was heavier than expected, so an invisible wig cap was anchored inside the wig to maintain stability during the long shoot. The skirt was crafted from multiple layers of translucent fabric, creating an airy lightness against the contrasting blue backdrop. The core of the set design was a highly reflective blue tulle drape paired with pink background lighting, creating a warm-and-cool contrast that kept the image from feeling too cold while delivering a luminous, translucent texture.
For the photo lying on the floor with a close-up of the White stockings, we tested many angles. It required elevating both legs while allowing the skirt to drape naturally, elongating the leg lines in frame without squishing facial expressions. We deliberately placed a transparent picture frame and marble balustrades in front of the lens as foreground blur, effectively adding spatial depth and avoiding a flat, straightforward portrait feel. The blue rose on the chest and the waist straps are exquisitely detailed, so when shooting close-ups and half-body shots, I focused on adjusting my shoulder angles to present the outfit's structure at its finest.
Regarding the wig and accessories, the glossy short blue wig looks best under cool lighting; paired with matching colored contacts, it gave the character a cool yet subtly delicate, fragile vibe. To prevent the headpiece from snagging the surrounding tulle during the shoot, we frequently paused to adjust its positioning. For hand gestures, like reaching out or cradling flowers, attention was paid to the gentle curve of the knuckles to avoid stiffness. For such elaborate dresses, post-processing requires careful highlight control to preserve the sheer fabric's original semi-translucent texture, while ensuring smooth, natural transitions across skin tones.
Because reflector usage varied significantly, the overall lighting mainly relied on softbox equipment to smoothly transition facial shadows for a refined, sophisticated finish. The shoot took several hours across various camera angles—medium shots, full-body, and close-ups—paying careful attention not to crowd the subject against the edges of the frame. Testing different poses provided more backup options, since arranging intricate headpieces and skirts on set is truly time-consuming. This set was shot primarily with a wide aperture, locking focus onto facial expressions and fine chest details while softly blurring the blue tulle in the background. To capture the cool and glamorous temperament true to Rem from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, we ultimately chose a cool blue-pink color balance, preserving the purity of blue while adding atmospheric warmth with pink lighting. Careful choices were also made in prop coordination during pre-production, such as using blue hydrangeas to echo the dress. The entire shoot went smoothly—a delightful cosplay experience that built valuable lighting insights for handling complex costumes and translucent props.
