Today's look was a re-tuned version built upon a costume I had worn previously. While some might call it rehashing old material, revisiting and remaking a piece always reveals fresh details to polish. This costume in a Blue and white color scheme took a long time to construct back then; the hollowed-out cutout across the bodice rigorously tests both fashion tape application and skin-tight tailoring, requiring plenty of double-sided tape during prep to ensure every edge laid perfectly flat against the body. The golden hardware and blue-purple diamond accents across the chest caught the outdoor natural light with great specular texture, though mindful positioning was essential to avoid blowing out harsh highlights in photos. The white lace adorning the collar and cuffs is exceptionally intricate, demanding utmost care during dressing and undressing to prevent snags. The cascading blue skirt fabric flows in multiple tiers, requiring me to lift the hem while walking to avoid stepping on it and ruining the fabric.
For the wig, I re-trimmed the bangs and sidelocks. The original Light purple hair had grown a bit frizzy, so I spent considerable time straightening it strand by strand with a flat iron and re-sculpting the root volume at the crown. Long Light purple hair easily tends to wash out skin tones or make the complexion look dull, so I opted for cool-toned eye shadow and blue contact lenses, adding two small blue painted sigil marks along the sides of my cheeks to echo the costume's palette. While not part of the original character design, this small creative touch injected extra vivacity into the overall presence. Atop the wig sat a white petal-lace headpiece, which carried noticeable weight and required numerous bobby pins anchored into my natural hair to avoid slipping during movement. The earrings and necklace were matching sapphire-style accessories whose metallic luster sparkled beautifully in the sun, though wearing them through an entire day certainly left my earlobes a bit sore.
The weather on convention day was fantastic, with outdoor natural light lending rich texture across my face and garments. However, strong outdoor sunlight poses its own challenges—eye makeup easily smudges, and high-key highlights can quickly flare, demanding far more frequent touch-ups than indoor shoots. The venue was packed with crowds of gear-toting photographers and attendees, making clean backgrounds a matter of skill. I typically asked the photographer to shoot from a slightly lower angle looking upward or scout shaded foliage as a backdrop, yielding a clean, creamy background blur. The multi-tiered waist and voluminous skirt hem meant gently holding up the cloth while walking to avoid tripping over the hem. The theme favored a natural, refreshing aesthetic, so we avoided overly dramatic poses, relying instead on line-of-sight and subtle hand gestures to direct the frame—such as resting a hand gently against the chest or softly caressing the cheek.
Cosplay in itself is an intensely energy-consuming endeavor: makeup, tailoring, props, photography, and post-processing all demand immense dedication. Even though I joked about rehashing old material today, stepping in front of the lens in this outfit once again brought fresh emotional resonance. Every session before the camera, refining facial expressions and shooting angles, is part of a continuous process of mastering the craft. For something you truly love, no amount of time spent ever feels wasted. The full Convention photos from this set are still being retouched, so here is a candid snapshot from the field to document today's sunshine and this heavy-duty battle attire. As for wardrobe malfunction prevention, there are countless practical tricks—using body tape, wearing breathable seamless base layers, and sewing hidden snap buttons inside the garments—all hard-earned lessons accumulated through repeated cosplay experiences.
