[Seele Vollerei cosplay] Honkai Impact 3rd's Seele Sends Gaokao blessings to the Class of 2026 - Image 1

The core theme of this shoot revolves around Gaokao blessings, featuring the character Seele Vollerei from Honkai Impact 3rd clad in a custom-tailored red-and-black Qipao cosplay.

The crowning highlight of the dress lies in the oversized red blossoms made from pearlescent satin, shimmering elegantly under the light. Prior to shooting, adjusting the placement of the flowers took considerable time to prevent awkward, harsh shadows under intense studio lighting. To complement the red-and-black palette, a red oil-paper umbrella was prepared as the main prop. The umbrella ribs were finely polished, giving it substantial weight in hand. When setting up, we tackled the light sources first, placing a pink light behind the white seamless backdrop to generate a gentle pink-purple gradient. Because the backdrop was relatively bright, contrast from the front key lights needed strict control, so we mounted a softbox with a grid, using the red umbrella's occlusion to cast natural shading across the face, lending facial contours a sharper, dimensional look.

For hair and makeup styling, the wig sported Seele's signature black base with red gradient tips, layered with rich depth. The pose in the photo was a deliberately designed over-the-shoulder glance; this angle organically flatters the curvature of the back while clearly displaying the eight characters: "高考加油" (Gaokao Jiayou) and "逢考必过" (Ace Every Exam). The calligraphy was applied right before shooting using specialized peelable paint that adhered seamlessly to the skin throughout the session and rinsed off cleanly afterward without leaving marks.

To better embody the 2D character, my movements channeled Seele's quiet yet resolute inner strength. The moment the shutter clicked, my gaze needed to be unflinchingly firm—looking into the distance like an older schoolmate silently rooting for candidates outside the examination hall. This photoshoot was also an embodied interpretation of her persona: Seele is inherently designed with multifaceted duality, and the visual clash between red and black mirrored the emotional tug-of-war between anxiety and resolve during exam prep. Wearing this modified Qipao cosplay infused the character with gentle, classical grace, bringing this thematic contrast vividly to life in the frame.

The shoot involved countless fine nuances: keeping back muscles taut to project smooth lines, and being mindful of the red wig tips when turning my head to ensure they never obscured the calligraphy on my back. The photographer's framing was equally meticulous; to fully showcase the messaging, the camera backed up slightly so the words wouldn't be blocked by my shoulder. Holding this posture heavily tested bodily flexibility, but reviewing the final shots proved every bit of exertion was worth it.

In post-processing, the primary task was harmonizing color grading, establishing resonance between the pink background and the red roses on the garment, while cleaning up minor pigment smudges on the skin to keep the visual clean and pure.

Regarding the message behind this project, the most important takeaway is that the Gaokao is not the end, but a fresh beginning. Throughout preparation, I continually pondered how to articulate this theme through visual language. Shoots imbued with deliberate purpose and symbolism carry far more documentary significance than mere character displays. I hope these visuals convey a calm, steadfast strength.

To the class of 2026 test-takers: the Gaokao is merely one milestone in the marathon of life. Maintain a healthy mindset—performing steadily is your finest state. This is not only a cheer of encouragement, but also a heartfelt token celebrating growth.
