These qipao convention photos shot at the Firefly ACG Expo unexpectedly matched the tone and lighting of that line about letting today's melancholy linger. Personally, I was quite satisfied with the styling for this set. The wig was custom-made with long deep-blue twintails topped with twin buns; to capture the character's uniquely cool, tsundere aesthetic, it took nearly an hour just styling the long locks and adjusting the golden butterfly hair ornaments. Paired with red contact lenses, the base makeup was kept intentionally pale, with contouring and blush leaning toward cool tones. A lot of effort went into the eye makeup—especially the reddish tint at the outer corners, which gave the eyes an expressive gaze. The qipao itself was a sleeveless, mandarin-collar design in deep blue, featuring light blue frog buttons at the neckline and striking golden dragon embroidery across the body with rich texture. The piece that required the most thought was the black stockings, paired with thigh garter straps and black high heels. Because the qipao features high side slits, I had to be mindful of my posture with every step. Wearing this set at the convention took some courage, as it really puts body line and poise under scrutiny. To capture flattering angles, I had to constantly twist my waist, engage my hips, or hold both twintails as seen in the photos. With many passersby watching and snapping pictures, it was a bit nerve-wracking for someone prone to social anxiety like me. After extensive coordination with the photographer to locate the best lighting angles, we managed to produce these photos steeped in atmosphere. Shooting this set was genuinely exhausting; the qipao was fitted tightly, and walking in high heels caused foot pain after just a few steps. Due to the cut of the skirt, sitting down to rest felt like a luxury. Yet seeing the final pictures made it all worthwhile. Preparing painstakingly for so long only to post it online—where, as the caption says, barely anyone might see it—often brings a sense of anticlimax. Still, looking back at these lovely images, seeing the makeup and outfit I poured effort into shine through the lens brings a sense of personal fulfillment that matters more than anything. After all, the original joy of cosplay lies in wearing outfits you love and immersing yourself in your own world. I plan to explore more varied styles ahead, making every set of convention photos an exclusive memory of my own.
