[Theresa Cosplay] Arknights Tower of Babel's Tenderness: Reunion with W

For this Tower of Babel-themed Duo cosplay photoshoot, we chose the tension-filled reunion scene between Theresa and W from the storyline. The lines from the original scene, "But I don't want to forget" and "I haven't thought of a real name for that child yet," are truly piercing. When we first saw the source illustrations, we were deeply moved by this emotional keynote of tenderness tinged with lingering regret.

To recreate the emotional layers in this scene, we made many thoughtful choices in hair and makeup. The long white hair and elf ears of Theresa Cosplay are the soul of the look; in terms of details, we softened the facial contours slightly to make the features appear gentler, complemented by warm lighting to match her all-embracing, benevolent temperament. On the other hand, the red horns and short silver hair of Wcos were key to creating contrast; we deliberately emphasized an aloof stubbornness in the styling, paired with a dark techwear jacket and tactical gloves to convey her thorned armor.

The light on the day of the shoot was actually quite unstable, but the photographer skillfully used natural light to capture the exact moment our eyes met. The gesture of Theresa cupping W's cheek carries immense depth—the gentleness of the hands and the focus of the gaze had to be perfectly in sync. Though it looks like a simple touch on the cheek, finding an angle that was neither overly forceful nor lacking intimacy required countless adjustments. Theresa also needed to maintain a gentle expression while conveying a complex emotion of irreversible loss, which placed high demands on controlling the gaze.

My partner cosplaying W in Wcos was exceptionally immersed in character within this styling. The details of the rings on the fingers paired with black fingerless gloves gave the scene a grounded realism, and combined with that slightly tilted-up head posture, faithfully captured the character's razor-sharp edge of walking on a knife's edge. The lighting layers when framing the two of us together were delicately crafted, with the contrast between light hair and dark jackets keeping the visual focus anchored on our facial interactions.

Portraying characters with such heavy lore and emotional bonds is far more challenging than simply striking cool poses. Transforming a hollow gaze into one filled with a narrative required immersing ourselves deeply in the era of the Tower of Babel, which was filled with ideals and regrets. Being able to embody this delicate, fragile yet resolute emotion together with my partner in this Duo cosplay was a truly special experience for me. Even without complex special effects or elaborate sets, relying on this direct physical touch and expression was more than enough to convey the unbreakable bond between these two characters.

Through this shoot, I gained a deeper understanding of the relationship between the characters. The hope lingering in Theresa's memory and the struggles W constantly tries to conceal both found an outlet before the camera. Without forced melodrama, simply capturing that genuine moment from Arknights was the original intent behind our quiet-atmosphere Theresa Cosplay and Wcos project.
