[Theresa Cosplay] Arknights Demon King Mourning: Quiet Moments Behind the Scenes

This behind-the-scenes photo snapped on my friend's phone became the first finished shot of this shoot. The official photos are still exporting slowly from the camera, but this quiet moment by the window is already enough to make me happily post it.

Let's talk about the preparation for this Theresa Cosplay. This black dress was custom-made, with a design referencing the Demon King mourning theme. The lace details at the neckline and shoulders are extremely intricate, while the hem features abundant ruffles and semi-sheer mesh, creating a lightweight drape when walking. To recreate the character's aura, heavy eyeshadow was avoided in makeup, emphasizing instead the curve of eyebrows paired with a soft reddish lip color, giving the overall look a cool yet gentle touch.

The small black lace top hat on my head was modified by hand, with the brim shaped so it wouldn't collapse easily. Paired with this light purple-pink wig—where the hair color is a low-saturation greyish pink with thinned hair ends—it easily creates a natural fluffy feel. The overall styling doesn't feel heavy, carrying a lightweight, fragile beauty instead.

For this mourning-themed shoot, the location was specifically chosen in an old mansion with vintage French windows. The white carved window frames, plaster moldings in wall corners, and ornate wall sconces fit the character's backstory settings perfectly. Outside the window were early winter tree branches, bearing withered yellow colors with a desolate feel, echoing the character's melancholic yet resolute expression.

The hardest part during shooting was controlling gaze and emotion. The character of Theresa carries extremely complex emotional depth in the Arknights storyline, bearing a heavy fate as the Demon King. This "mourning" theme required me to present a tension between calm sorrow and silent resolve. When my friend snapped photos from across the room on a phone, I was flipping through this blue prop book in hand, simply taking notes on script key points.

At that moment, outdoor diffuse light spilled in through the glass, casting soft, subtle light and shadow across the black skirt hem. My friend and I agreed on wanting a natural state, leading to the pose of holding up the skirt hem while slightly lowering my head. On my feet were black pointed high heels paired with sheer Black stockings, making the entire lower body outline look clean and crisp. Irregular cuts and lace stitching along the skirt's bottom edge enhanced the vintage yet slightly dark detail of the overall hair and makeup styling.

The influence of the character and work itself brought considerable pressure while preparing this cosplay, but finishing it felt completely worth it. The blue book prop held in hand was 3D printed in advance and hand-painted/distressed; both material texture and cover feel met the visual needs of the overall black-and-gold Gothic dress aesthetic.
